Just how does someone get up to 31,000+ posts!!  How many keyboards have you worn out?? LOL

The legislature in CT yesterday is considering "leveling" the tax levied on cars throughout the state.  They will first remove the "right" for municipalities to levy their own taxes on their own citizens.  Then they will declare a "flat tax" mill rate for ALL automobiles across the state and you and I will be paying that amount directly to the state.  Then, the state will divide up the money to the town that no one is short.  Right.....      So, the towns that have a low mill rate, say 11 mills, will be raised to something like 29 mills so that their money can be spread into the poorer towns/cities.

I must tell you that this run to regionalism has got to stop.  While building regional schools in the mountain areas of the state makes sense since the tiny towns can't support high schools on their own, going regional with towns like Windsor Locks, Wilson, Windsor, and Hartford, for instance, will simply suck the money out of the more successful town and send it to the poor town.  In a lot of cases, the poor towns simply are being run so poorly that they need to be overhauled.  But, they won't stand for that and are demanding that he state intervene with this socialist 'fix' and take my money from me.

Yet another wonderful reason to stay here, right?

Rome,

This is to make it fair for poor people. Just another scheme to generate more revenue while at the same time adding more state workers to the already bloated government here. Malloy can give the Minister of each regional tax authority jobs to his buddies. By doing this regional taxing the state will of course funnel all the money to the iner cities and the non-working citizens of said cities. Then our towns will have no choice but to raise the mill rate to compensate for the loss of tax revenue.

I can't leave this place fast enough.

All 31000 posts were mature and full of valuable information.

And the regionalized taxes are just another way to spread successful people's money around. More rewards for the state's screw-ups.

"The new Census population estimates are out today, and only two metros added more than 100,000 people between July 2013 and July 2014. Houston and Dallas—both in Texas.

Only one metro with a population greater than 1 million people grew by 3 percent last year. It's Austin—also in Texas.

And you'll never guess what state had the most entries in the list of 50 counties with the greatest population gains. I'm kidding, you definitely will guess, because it's Texas."

The problem is that there are a LOT of progressives moving to Texas, and elsewhere. They are fleeing Cali, CT and other progressive havens that have been driven into the ground, and taking their progressive voting habits with them which slowly causes the new area where they are living to slowly go progressive blue starting the destructive progressive cycle all over again.

They're more of a cancer or virus than a locust. They ultimately take over the host, destroy it, then when the host can no longer support them,, they move on to infect and destroy the next host. They insert themselves into the educational, judicial and political system to accomplish their destruction.

Positively, it seems that nationally people are getting more realistic.  Nationally, the gun control jig appears to be up with the weight of evidence finally overpowering progressive liberal "feelings".  Nationally, Republican representation and governorship's are at higher levels than any time since the 1920s.  Nationally, Emperor Obama has been exposed for his lack of clothes and is extremely weak.  Population moves are an embarrassment to liberal bastions.  Detroit embarrassingly exposes the natural consequences of progressive liberalism.

I believe more people would migrate to the Libertarian portion of the Republican party if it would accept other individual rights / limited government.  I personally view decriminalization of marijuana broadly as a positive / Libertarian.  I don't care if gays have right to marriage.  The fact of the matter is that the majority of women are not going to vote Republican with a hard line stance on abortion.  If the party could accept that and focus on eliminating barbaric late term abortions I think it would go a long way to expanding the brand.  That would go a long way to solidifying individual liberty and principals of limited government.

The REAL reason Hartford is talking about this is to make the move to take over the entire tax program for the entire state.  They would like nothing more than to approach the property tax program the same way.  Levy a "flat" mill rate for the entire state's homes and businesses, collect and send all that money to the state so they can then redistribute that money as they see fit.  Obviously Wilson will need more  than Farmington, right?

It's programs like this that will get squandered on the "New Britain/Hartford buss-way" projects on a whim.  It'll continue to feather the nests of politicians and towns will lose control.  You can see them all on their knees at the capitol with their bowls outstretched begging for "More Please!".

Why this won't work is plain and simple:

NO TOWN OR CITY will ever do anything to improve their plight as long as the money stream continues from the capitol.  Why should they improve?  If they do, the money will go somewhere else, right?   It's the same every time the government gets involved with funding anything.  That money will be spent up to the last penny and beyond.

This is the panacea, the pot of gold and the end of the rainbow for politicians.  Giving them direct control over any pile of OPM (other people's money) is what they live for, nothing less.

Towns need to remember that every penny they squeeze out of the their citizens and businesses must be necessary and accounted for.  They have to prove to us that it's money well spent toward our streets and educational facilities.  If the state were to remove each town's ability to control it's own budget and local taxes,  where will be the incentive to be so accountable.  Instead everyone will be trying to prove that THEY are eligible for more and more assistance instead of keeping the lid down on spending in their town.
