Saturday 4/25- rifle match at Metacon- could be 2 gun or 3 gun- so prepare by bringing all 3.

Is that the same day as the meetup?

I believe that is.

A couple of questions about the Somers Sportsmans Schedule:

1) Is the shotgun match on 23 July going to a plate match, or is it going to be an action (e.g. IDPA style) match? Knockdown targets or evidence of impact only? Will it be all birdshot, or a combination of bird/buck/slugs?

2) Are all of the 2-gun matches going to be rifle and pistol, or will there be shotgun and pistol as well this year? (If there will be both, which dates will be rifle and which dates will be shotgun?)

3) For the .22LR IDPA style match (May) - will we start from a holster, or the table/ low ready (I use conversions and duty-gun clones, so holster start is preferred). Will the COF be planned with on-the-clock mag changes (like regular action matches)? If so, how many rounds estimated per stage?

Your best bet is to contact them for specifics. I barely have time to consolidate the event dates. I am not affiliated with them and are yet to shoot there. Post back with what you find out.

Yes, I put on the 2 gun shoots at Somers. I'm currently out of state, I should have firm dates by next week. The 2 gun shoots are usually the 3rd sunday of the month. The schedule on the website hasn't been updated yet.

The shoots during the week are usually bowling pins or plate shoots.

I'm going to do 2 shotgun/pistol and the rest rifle/pistol this year. The last shoot for the year will probably be a 3 gun event.

Shot the Metacon Rifle match. It was a 22 steel challenge. Shot 4 stages or 5-6 plates 4 times each for time. It was a ton of fun. Got to meet a few other CTHTF members.

There was talk about making next months match a 22 rimfire 2 gun match.

The Andover Sportsman's Club will be hosting an Action Pistol Match on Sunday June 7th. The cost will be $10 for members and $12 for non-members. There will be multiple stages involving movement, multiple targets, steel, gun handling skills and other handgun scenarios.

A defensive caliber handgun of at least 9mm/.38 special is required. A holster is mandatory and multiple magazines or speed loaders will make the match run smoother.  Bring 100 rounds of ammo. Sign-up is at 0815, walk- through is at 0840 and the first round will be fired at 0900. Eye and ear protection is mandatory.

I'll let ya know how the Metacon match goes. I haven't shot IDPA in about 5 years. The club I shot with in California usually had about 100-125 shooters on a given match day, don't think this one will be as crowded! Usually shoot CDP with my 1911, but this weekend is the new CCP and BUG classes, so see how my M&P 45c does!

I'm in a similar situation. But I think 95% sure I'll be at Andover this Sunday.

So who else is going?

Andrapos?

TBR?

Got home from the metacon idpa match, small group, I think 12 shooters showed up today. I don't think I'll be making up there for many more matches, a long way to drive for 3 hours and 48 rds fired. I think I'll try the Wooster mt practical pistol matches Fridays  and maybe ramapoo matches on Wednesday evenings.

Shot Andover Action Pistol match today.

Stage 1: Start behind a shoot thru barricade. 8 paper targets at 4 positions ended with a hit on steel.

Stage 2: Start behind a shoot thru barricade. 6 pepper poppers then 2 positions of 4 paper targets ending with a hit on  steel.

Stage 3: Start stage on prepared double feed. Plate rack followed by a duel dueling tree. About 23 freekin pieces of steel. (This is the stage I had the equipment issues. Went through a LOT of rounds.)

Stage 4: 3 magazines with 2 rounds each. Fire 2 on steel, repeat, fire 2 on steel, repeat, fire 2 on steel. ALL STRONG HAND ONLY. SINGLE HAND RELOADS.

Stage 5: one magazine with 4 rounds. Draw, switch to support hand, 4 hits on steel support hand only.

Stage 6: 1 hit on steel, move, 2 paper targets, move, 1 hit each on 3 gongs, move, 2 paper targets ends with a hit on steel.

Overall it was a good match. A little miscommunication on shooting order as to what stages you were supposed to go to after completing a stage. A little slow. But overall a very relaxed and ambitious match. No concealment, no round limits. Big boy rules.

I had some real equipment issues. I tried running a lone wolf 40-9 conversion barrel in my XDm 40 with terrible results. Failure to feeds, stove pipes, and I couldn't hit shit. Back to the drawing board on that one. Really painful. Good thing I had a few backups I was eager to shoot anyway. Had one Failure To Feed in the P226. I wish I had taken the time to see what went wrong but instead I just did immediate action and kept running. All in all I'm sure I wasn't very competitive, so I should have just taken the time to investigate. But I'm learning. I had a good time and was safe. Got to meet another member. Got some trigger time. All is good.

Metacon rifle match this Saturday at 8:00. I heard it's going to be a three gun match. I'm trying to make it work so I can be there.

Saturday at Metacon will be 2 gun .22 match(22 rifle and pistol).

Sunday at Metacon is the yearly Assault rifle match(50 participants). I know it's filled already, but spectators are welcome, and I'm sure there will be a lot of guys from here, there!

I wish I had a t shirt of bender from futurama to ID myself!

I was thinking about going to the match on Saturday. If I go, I will bring my Glock and WASR.

G22 .22 ( have an AA conversion)

Since I don't have a cool guy card, my WASR is also  a ban compliant .22.

For those who don't fear to travel into enemy territory

Hello Shooters,

Camp Smith Match #2 will take place this SUNDAY, JUNE 28.  Squadding and safety brief is at 07:15 in the tank parking lot.  After the brief we will all drive down together and park behind the 300 yard line (please stay off grass and don’t block the road), unload equipment and walk to the 200.

This match will be a highpower / 800 aggregate XTC out to 300 yards:

2 sighters + 20 shots for record slow fire standing at 200

2 sighters + 10 shots for record rapid fire sitting at 200 (2 strings)

2 sighters + 10 shots for record rapid fire prone at 300 (2 strings)

2 sighters + 20 shots for record slow prone fire at 300 (reduced 600 target)

If you have not shot with us you may not be on the gate entry list.  I know I have asked before and a few of you responded, but send me your name once more so I can be certain you are on.  Take my cell below if any issues at the gate.

We will be holding a Richard Meade Memorial Match the following weekend on July 5 with awards for high service rife and match rifle shooters.  Come out and get your zeros....and get ready for Perry for those of you going.

See you on the line,

George Kline

PLEASE REMEMBER .223 ONLY AT CAMP SMITH
