Heard it several times in the past during major snow storms. Normally they want those folks to help get docs and nurse's to the hospital or help transport food/medicine to those snowed in. Very nice of you "younger" guys to volunteer to help "older" guys out if nèeded. Frick'n years fly by and you find yourself stuck home with your leg up wrapped in ice recovering from your second total knee replacement in 8 weeks. Last thing I need is a blizzard for the wife to handle. She's a tough little polish woman though, hardest working person I ever met, it's true what they say about polacks. (no offense intended). Knee's suck but will get better, bought myself a new BCM upper to ease the pain and have something to look forward to. Don't forget stuttering Dan is probably creaming as he gets to play weatherman again and Nancy Wyman will be standing behind him robotically smiling, nodding and never speaking. Does she ever talk? Really can't remember ever hearing her voice. We're actually pretty well set, got supplies, even the coveted D cells which will be like gold the next day after the storm. Neighbor will help out and clear the end of the driveway, dog will struggle though trying to find her now buried shit spot. Ah, the joys of new England living, honestly if I never saw below 50 again.....

I was in S&S last night, on my normal grocery schedule. It was pandemonium. The bread aisle was bare, milk was gone, even eggs and cheese were scarce. I find the panic amusing and scary at the same time. Its snow, its not even a lot of snow, and people go all end of days. Pretty pathetic.

Pure coincidence - I brought one of my snowmobiles home from VT yesterday so I could do some wrenching in the garage one evening this week. If things keep up, I'm sure my son's school will be closed tomorrow so I'll plan on fixing the sled tonight and ripping around town all night :)

Many towns/cities have put up parking bans. For those in New Haven here is the parking ban info.
“New Haven is well-prepared for a coordinated, comprehensive response to this snowstorm and that response will be all-the-more effective with cooperation from city residents,” Mayor Harp said. “We’re asking those with extra driveway space to allow neighbors to park there and we’re asking local businesses with parking lots to make those available as well.” The parking ban includes downtown New Haven (the area encircled by Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, State Street, Grove Street, and Howe Street), posted snow emergency routes, and the odd-numbered side of all other city streets. Free alternative parking is available in New Haven Public Schools parking lots, city park parking lots, the Granite Square parking garage, and for a $3 per day fee, at the Temple Street parking garage. Residents are also reminded the neighborhood parking remains permissible on the even-numbered side of city streets. |

( except bread) Mike One of the advantages to living in a small town is you have lots of food on hand. We live in Stafford so we are forced to either pay the ridiculous prices at our local Big Y or go to another town to shop. My wife being the frugal person she is shops all the sales. We buy large amounts of stuff when on sale. So when times like this hit we are good to go. About the only item we really need is milk for my coffee. So if we run out I drink black coffee not a big deal. She bakes her own bread anyway and we have enough flour and yeast to bake a hundred or more loaves. Generator has fuel for 4-5 days. |
