Wife wants to get away for a few days. She is thinking Mystic CT. Any recommendations on thngs to do. We'll go to Mystic Seaport & maybe the Aquarium . Anyplace else that might be of interest to a couple of old farts in their 50's. Maybe to Groton to see the Nautilus Not sure the Mrs. will be interested in that.

http://www.bfclydescidermill.com/ This place is pretty cool...get some hard cider while you're there.

Depending on what you want for dinner:

The casinos are chock full of restaurants too. Michael Jordans Stakehouse at the Mohegan Sun gets voted best steakhouse in New London County often. Foxwoods has Shrine and Paragon if you want asian or french cuisine.

I hear the museum the Mashantuckets have at Foxwoods is nice, haven't been there yet though.

I don't spend money at casinos, especially Indian casinos.  When these super rich "Indians" spread large quantities of their money on impoverished Indians out west I might rethink my opinion of them.

Wife is pretty much a chicken only person. No steak or seafood. She's a bit picky about what she eats, me on the other hand I eat just about anything

Head a little farther east to RI and take her to Newport RI. Mansions, cliff walk , and plenty of fine dinning.

Most of the money doesn't go to the Indians.

They just got stuck with the bill.

The casinos are a sophisticated, modern version of trading a chest full of blankets and glass beads for Manhattan Island.

Their "reservation" is the grounds of a  former nuclear fuel factory for the submarine force.

There are several wineries in the southeast corner of the state. Check the Ct. Wine trail.

Bee and thistle is excellent dining. Full of excellent artwork.   Great booze too.   Figure about $100 per person before tip depending on your wine tastes.  Everything on the menu is outstanding.  Fairly casual.   Nice jeans, a tucked in polo, and a blazer / sports jacket works fine here.  No need to get dressed up, but I'd advise against buffet attire.

It is right next to the Florence Griswold Museum, which is a wonderful, small art museum that is world renowned for it's heritage, collections, and ongoing contributions at the nearby art college.

Don't forget the USS Nautilus, the first Nuclear Powered submarine (and only one on display in the USA IIRC).  The Submarine Force Museum and Library accompanies it.   Admission is free IIRC.

Battleship Cove in Fall River is like a 90 minute drive from Mystic.  Not sure why the guys are sending you there.

Take a Ferry ride to Fishers Island.  I know it's going back to NY, but you can't get there from NY, so that's kind of neat.

Octagon steakhouse is excellent as well.  It's owned by the guy that owns the casino and pretty much any decent accommodations down there.

We had an excellent Spatchock chicken Saturday night.

I just finished the carcass over white rice to pick up the spices, skin, and little bits that fall off.

Mohegan Sun.

To be fair, the Trading Cove WAS their ancestral land.

But it was pretty Glowey-in-the-dark with a side of chrenekov before they built the Mohegan Sun over it.

If your looking for a very nice dinner I highly recommend the Oyster Club in Mystic. Clapboard dining room, and "tree-house" outside bar if its not a sweltering day.

That's a joke. DanTSX used to rave about Carlo's and I, hardcore, renatus, and 'rerro used to give him shit about it, saying it closed down. Now that TSX is gone, hardcore is pimping Carlo's and the rest of us keep shoveling the shit.

ETA we went on a charter fishing trip together and Dan was raving about Carlo's and complained it was closed down because of prime rib being rare.  We wouldn't let him live it down.
