I don't personally own one of those model but IMHO savage has some of the most accurate guns for a great price. I have a savage 10 and I absolutely love it and some of my buddies have the axis and they're spot on.

have the 308 hog hunter

only downfall for me is the lack of detachable mag

well and the fact you have to cycle the bolt to get the bullets out you dont use

I have a hog hunter.
Hate the factory mag.  I got big fingers that dont work all that well and once i mounted a scope i had a bitch of a time loading it.
Sooo  i went and spent about 600 on a stock, cdi bottom metal  and mags.

Like it alot more.

I may have cdi cut the factory stock for the bottom metal and sell the stock i bought.

Thanks guys.  How are the iron sights on the hog hunter?  Are they ok to adjust?

I personally like the savage stuff and have a 110 in 30-06.

I tried the ruger scout but for me the bolt would bind while working the action and that was strange.

I think the  hog hunter is a good value rifle.  Anyone know if a local place has any?

Check out this CZ 550FS Bavarian Mannlicher carbine in .308 with 4rd detachable mag and iron sights.  Pretty cool.

Or a Sako 85 Black Bear in .308 (no mag though)

I need to check the scout again and see if that ruger bolt is sticky....I don't know why it was for me....I have plenty of other bolts and this never happened to me.  But when i cycled the ruger bolt any upward pressure on the bolt handle when returning the bolt to battery from its most reward position would bind it up.

Very nice picture btw and thanks!

It's going to vary from one rifle to another.

Sadly thats just how things are made these days.   Ruger will usually make it right if you have a problem, but mass production sloppiness tolerances are built into the design.

It's still a very useful and quality rifle.  If I was looking for a deer gun, I'd be buying one.  It has too many features that I could use for other things that there wouldn't be any point in a more traditional rifle.
