OK gun selection, but also big on canoeing and fishing. Kittery Trading Post, in Kittery, Maine. Huge place, all forms of sporting and outdoors goods. It feels like a department store for hunters. Does anyone know of a good gunshop in the southern part of VT? Say anywhere between Brattleboro and Hartford? I can't seem to find any..
Sounds like there are some pretty nice places up north.. I'll have to check some of them out. [:)] My favorite shop and the one I've bought all my guns from, is Alstead Gunshop, in Alstead, NH. They have a pretty big inventory of rifles both new and used, and have a lot of handguns as well. |

Ballard Rd. Georgia, VT -im practically there everyday. good regular crowd, lots of hunting and b.s. stories told by everyone, about .5 mile from the house. Richard (ex-Marine, manager) is very knowledgeable about the stuff he sells, a good source of info about hunting and fishing spots in the local area and all around friendly guy. Dattilio's Bait and Tackle Shelburne Rd. South Burlington, VT -go visit Vinnie and Jimmy. be prepared to wait your turn for service, as the place is crowded most times. but when Jimmy finally gets to you, he will bend over backwards to get you what you want. not a lot of guns in the inventory to show you, but he will get you the best prices in town. |

Not a "regular" gun store per say - but I'd recommend Long Mountain Outfitters here in Maine - anyone interested in Class II/III weapons would probably find them of interest. Believe its owned by Dan Shea publisher of Small Arms Review out of Harmony, Maine.

There are a couple of good shops just outside Hartford CT in Newington CT. They are the Newington Gun Exchange, which is also a class III dealer, and Hoffman's. Good places to look through for toys. Hoffman's is a pretty good sized shop.

Some of my CT spots . . .
Hoffmans in Newington on the Berlin Turnpike. Nice selection, friendly and knowledgeable staff. One of those places I would make a field trip to if I were you. If you havent been there in a while, be aware that they have moved down the turnpike. Cubetas Field & Stream on Route 66 in Middlefield - bought most of my rifles and reloading supplies from them. Good service from most of the staff. They also have a big fly fishing supply section. See Chris, he's got a white beard. Really good guy. I took a good NRA reloading class here too. E&B Sporting Goods Route 85 Salem - Nice enough local place, but I have had both good and bad experiences. Bob teaches an excellent pistol permit class. Rons Guns Route 1 East Lyme - Overpriced. Don't do business with them unless in a dire need. Also a deer check station. The Grouse Perch in Old Saybrook - Really good field shop. Lots of duck and bird stuff. Big powder selection. Will order anything you need. Traditions Blackpowder Rifles Main Office & Sales in Old Saybrook - I got my blackpowder rifle here and it is one sweet gun. They have good deals in the showroom and have a massive inventory on site. Pauls Gunshop on Route 1 in Waterford - only bought ammo from them in a pinch once. Way overpriced and not that big of a selection. |

You need to do your price comparisons Before going to AG Guns! In September 1998 I went out with a mission . . . I was buying an AR15 BM that day and not returning home without it! I went to the gun show at Shriners' Auditorium and came out very disappointed. I went to AG Guns and purchased an AR15. I paid ~$75 more there than Four Seasons sold them for (but I didn't know about Four Seasons then) and I paid ~$100 for a battle pack (~300rds) of South African .223!! [NOTE: Today I can buy that same rifle at Four Seasons for $50 less than I paid AG Guns in 1998.] I had a nice chat with the two brothers that owned the place as all of us were very involved with GOAL (unfortunately one brother has since passed away). I certainly did not get a good deal there, but I did meet my goal for that day. Carl's ammo prices rival mail-order in many cases (Internet specials from Four Seasons in particular) and I have bought a number of guns from him, always getting a good deal on pricing. There is a good reason why Four Seasons is the highest volume FFL in MA! Four Seasons is ~90miles RT for me and AG Guns is probably 110-120miles RT, so Carl sees me a number of times per year and I've only been to AG Guns 2 or 3 times. |

I've been buying most of my long guns from the Village Gun Store in Whitefield NH..
I live in Maine and we can't buy handguns in NH. or I would be buying them from him as well. It's a family run shop (Stan and his wife,whose name I can't remember),they allways have a large inventory,both new and used. They don't carry many sporing items,just firearms and reloading stuff. Stan allways seems to have a few interesting guns along with what seems like hundreds of hunting rifles an shotguns. He does lots of buisness, so his inventory changes like crazy. Hillclimber |

I'll give Four Seasons and Carl two more thumbs up. This store is by far the best I've ever been to. They are very friendly and knowledgeable, and have the best prices in Mass. Collectors Coin Gallery in Stoneham seems pretty good as well. Nice shop, decent prices, and the owners seem like good guys. One shop to avoid in Mass, however, is the Powderhorn in Hyannis, on Cape Cod. The owner is a miserable sob.

Hey Propguy, how does the Powderhorn stay in business? I went there for a couple officers mags and a case of .45acp, and the jackass shit all over me. He produced 1 Colt factory mag, covered with rust, and wanted $25. I said (hoping to negotiate the price down) I can get Wilson Combat mags for the same price, and they're the best you can get. At this point he said to me "Oh yeah? Good. Go buy them from them, than. I don't need this sale." I said ok, I'll skip the case of ammo too,and kiss my ass. I'll NEVER go in there again.

Thats a great place also! 80 $ ++++ a 1/2 hour is Fing nuts It takes 15 min or so to make the call and fill out the form"s" PG |

Howell's Gun Shop in Gray, Maine (exit 11) is also WAY overpriced. They mark everything up 30% or more.
Keeps em in business though, the owner drives a brand new $100k Hummer...yellow. Did alot of business with them for a couple years, but then got wise. |

I like M&M too, and they are my closest fun store, but his gun prices are higher than Four Seasons. I think he wanted like $850 for the SW1911 and Four Seasons only wanted right around $699-725. |

I'll second Dave's. Went there for the first time a few days ago. Seems to be an ok place. Everybody friendly. Good selection of postban AR's. Manager (I think) shoots AR's and is building one for himself. Good prices and pretty good selection on handguns too. I'll definitely go back. A little hard to find from south county. If you don't know where they are located, call first for directions and don't wander around on the "wrong" Post Road for a while like I did. Any other good shops in RI? |

He's always bent over backwards to get you what you want, even if he doesn't have it in the store. I've been to Fourseason, I love that place, but Ted will rivel their prices. He's insanely inexpensive and carrys a lot of AR's, Cowboy, and many Pistols that are hard to find. He's also our local area Dillon Reloder supplier. If you're in the area, I really suggest just stopping in just to see, and to talk to him. You will be supprised. |

I think most of the gun shops that I know of have been mentioned. But I know of a few great gunsmiths. Dave Pidgeon is fantastic and also has a variety of firearms for sale as well and can get you whatever you want. My grandfather dealt with him for years....great guy too. Loui Laberge who is located in Charlotte is another excellent gunsmith. He even has his own range for people to use as well...not sure on what the distances are though. The third smith I know actually works at the Powder horn now. His name is George Pipper, very knowledgeable guy and has even gone to school for various firearms.
