in honor of Labor Day's NHRA U.S. Nationals I'd like to post this  link.

how many know the 1958 US Nationals were held at the Fairgrounds?

how many know there was a dragstrip at the Fairgrounds?

it was parallel to the railroad and ran west to east until a car ran over May Ave. into Spartan-Atlantic.
then it ran east to west until a car ran into a maintenance shed.
then they decided maybe not.

for fun, how many people know Nascar raced at Taft Stadium and at the Stockyards Coliseum.?

Lee Petty, etc. the real deal Nascar.

what happened?

I LOVE drag racing, it's too bad there really isn't much of it here anymore.  I've been wanting to go to Thunder Valley (I think that's what it's called) some time and see what is happening there.  They host some big races sometime I think.

My wife and I went to Thunder Valley with some friends last month for "Outlaw Armageddon".
Most of the guys from the Street Outlaws TV show were racing and we got to look over their cars and talk to a coupe of them,
I had to give Dominator a bad time about running a big block chevy in his dart.
We had not been to the races in several years and had a great time.
