Congrats!
I'm not really active anymore, so I can't help you on which ones are most active. I bought a new 2 meter radio, Kenwood TM-281 for emergency use at home, I used online sources for info, some are accurate, some aren't, you just have to work through them. There's actually quite a few guys that talk simplex on 146.52. They also use 144.925 in the mornings (5am til about 9am). If you key up on 146.52 you should be able to talk to someone, almost any time of the day.
