THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT  Case trimming by hand SUCKS!!!!!!! I have one of them Folgers 3lbs plastic coffee containers packed FULL of my 68 brass, I've spent about 4 hrs tonight trimmin that brass, I still have about 1/4-1/3 of it to go......I've trimmed it all by hand and it SUCKS!!!! I WILL BE ordering something to make it easier, I think theres an electric drill adapter for pretty cheap on eBay, I will have one soon!! Because trimmin by hand SUCKS!!! *rant off*

Yeah I was sure drooling over the RCBS Trim Pro electric trimmer then nearly shat myself when I saw the three Franklins it costs

lots of power trim options out there from the very affordable lee rig/combo to the higher end setups.
if you're going to be trimming more than 50 or so at a sitting you got to power up or you spend the majority of your reloading time on case prep instead of loading, then shooting  |

yeah, trimming is punishment for having fun.
breaking down cartridges you didn't trim but needed to is punishment for being lazy. i have a manual RCBS trimmer i took the handle off and put a bolt in. i use a drill on that. not optimal, but i can't get 3 thicks ahead (SOMETHING always sucks it up) for a real power trimmer. with a little ingenuity maybe a guy could mount a drill on a slide and make his own. and i trim a little on the short side, also. |

Yeah, its so slow and tedious, unless you have a Giraud...note this is the complete process, including chamfer and deburring.

The Giraud trimmer is excellent but the price might scare most away. Easy to setup and chamfers/deburrs while trimming. The time it saves when trimming, chamfering, and deburring easily justified the cost for me.

If the price doesn't scare, I think you will more than get your money's worth from the time it saves. It is such a nice piece of equipment I have a few friends that just buy the shellholder and trimmer for each caliber they want to trim, then they swing over and borrow the trimmer for a few. You could recoup some money if you charged them a small fee but I just make them buy their own shellholders and trimmers. Few tips from my usage: - I use lock rings on my shellholders so once you get them set you can easily remove and reinsert the shellholders and be back at the same length you were trimming last time. The rings that come with the shellholders are not good for making the process of changing shellholders without having to set it up at the desired length every time. If you mess up the setup, you will sacrifice one or two pieces of brass. This is why I use the lock rings. I have changed my setup numerous times and the brass always comes out to the same length plus a few or minus a few thousandths. - I buy a new trimmer for each caliber from Giraud. This way they come set to the exact position they need to be to trim the case. This is not necessary since the trimmer is easy to adjust but it saves me a little time and hassle. Trimmer also comes with a triple cutter blade and will probably never wear down in its life. You could possibly just buy a new trimmer for each bullet size and that would probably work just the same IE 30 caliber, 22 caliber, 6mm, etc. As long as the holes are the same size you should be good to go. - After trimming several cases you will stop measuring all of the cases but will get accustomed to what the sound is for normal trimming. Then you will only measure ones that sound different and still find the brass measures to the length you adjusted the trimmer. I have not ruined any brass trimming with the Giraud since I got the shellholders setup to the lengths I wanted. |

I have the Lyman trimmer with the drill adapter and it works great. I can trim about 2-300 cases/hr. One thing I found that helps me is that I use gloves when I reload. I use golf gloves because they still give me the dexterity of my hands but guard them from blisters/oils/lubes from the cases. I got some off of amazon (right and left hand) for about $15 total.

I usually wear latex gloves, you can see them in the video I posted, excellent traction, they keep the skin oils off the brass, the downside is your hands sweat...a lot.
