I think I lucked out, found a guy just outside of town selling hens that are already laying, then I found another guy in Stillwater that sells a lot of laying hens that have just started laying.

Hell if I lived out in the stix I would have yard birds running around , best eggs and range chicken . No ticks in the yard either .

No ticks in the yard either . hell the stray/abandoned dogs cleaned my "free" range chickens out in no time; and the coons and possums cleaned out the coop. pretty well gave up on chickens for a while. |

Told ya how to bait them dog in , good test target for that 6mm , need to take a hammer to and chicken wire to that coop and pen them up when no one at home

Worked at a chicken ranch in HS in Ca. We replaced all layers after 1year ( chicken pot pies) Get young birds!
The one ranch that I worked, I feed all 150,000 *auto feeders* only 2 of us took care of the whole ranch. We got the chicks at 15 to 20 hours old and shipped them to the egg farms at about 22 weeks. I would collect thousands of egg every day starting about 18 or 19 weeks, would trash most of the eggs. Out of the 150K we would get around 5000 roosters, we would break their necks and put them in 10,000 gal underground tanks. I still like chicken and eggs. |
