Correct. But that's the beauty of a shotgun. You can use the appropriate ammunition for the circumstances and switch back and forth as the situation changes.

I'm thinking in a home invasion/HD type situation one won't have much time to be thinking about what type of shotshells they want to shoot the invader/attacker with; they're going to have to use what's in the chamber & mag tube and if by chance they shoot it empty and they're still able they're most likely going to grab whats in reserve and start reloading with whatever shotshell they grab first.

Exactly!! That's is why I keep them in the order they are in.

Shoot two! Load two!

I'm a little late chiming in here but I still think that for a home defense situation 20 gauge is the best option. It's lethal at the normal ranges of typical intruder situations without the risks of overpenetration normally associated with a shotgun.

I'm looking forward to trying this shotgun out. Personally I don't really enjoy shotgunning unless it's hunting birdies or shooting skeet which I haven't done in a long time but loved to do then. Not sure this particular shotgun is good for shooting skeet but if I ever find a place to shoot some I'm gonna try it heh heh.

old painless recently had a post where he did testing with federals 20ga flight control #1 buck; iirc at 15' it was damn near slug type patterning with the shot cup holding buckshot together.

Posting about old painless; Brandi, check out his site, he's got lots of info on his shotgun/shotshell testing into different media.

Skeet shooting with a tactical shotgun is excellent training..

Shooting into Sheetrock stacked like the tests above is not applicable to the real world. Two layers of Sheetrock separated by a stud, then another wall 10 to 15 feet apart is closer to a real home and would be a more viable test. I live by myself with two Small dogs in a concrete block house. I have buckshot loaded. If I had kids in the house or was in an apartment, I wouldn't be loaded with buckshot.
The most sure thing about using a shotgun is how good you are with the shotgun using it in the situation you need it. How good you are, that's up to you.

FWIW The boxoftruth tests with "wall testing" avoided using buck shot and bird shot for penetration tests. He only used shotgun slugs. That leaves a lot of questions unanswered. Those tests don't address the use or size of shot in a shotgun in a home situation when it comes to penetration.

Way late to this one but I like #4 Buck in my house but it is an older house. In what I am picturing in your situation I would look at the Fiochi #4 steel shot.

You guys are a wealth of information, most of it useless, but occasionally I can glean a bit of good stuff out of it, thanks!

I know some of you are wondering if that's an insult so unfurrow your brows...it's a compliment

John Wayne jokes aside I have a question for one of you OKC guys. Is there anyone that has some land and a skeet thrower? Thought I would be fun, after it cools down, to have a little skeet shoot. Nothing too big...maybe some BBQ (I can smoke a big pork butt and offer that up) and drinks. I really miss shooting at those clay birds.
