Everyone should call the governors office during business hours ( 9-5 ) and urge her to sign SB1733 into law. It takes less than a minute 405-521-2342, if you don't do it ,don't bitch if she vetoes it from pressure from the calls she receives from the anti's. Public apathy will be the real downfall of this country; pull your head out and do it.

+1 every Okie needs to call. Even if you are out of state please call, I've been told that the anti's are having non-Oklahoma residents call to protest it.

I called today. Sent e-mails to everyone I know that supports 2A, and posted it on my Facebook page. I received a reply from one of my friends that said he heard her speak at the GOP convention and she said she would sign it this week. Lets hope she keeps her word. IMO she shouldn't have to count phone calls.

If she wants some kinds of tally for and against, she can look at the freaking vote from the legislature and quit playing games!
The people elected her to sign bills that get passed by our republican legislature, not to second guess the will of the people.
Maybe she should look at erring on the side of freedom and not the side of big government!

I know you still need to have a license in your possession, however, are only handguns allowed to be carried openly, or does this also cover rifles?

No rifles.

After she's already publicly stated that she will sign the bill, is there really that much concern that she won't?

Press Release

Governor Fallin Signs ‘Open Carry’ Legislation into Law

OKLAHOMA CITY – Governor Mary Fallin today signed into law Senate Bill 1733, a measure that allows Oklahoma citizens to openly carry firearms. The bill permits those who are licensed, or already have been licensed, to carry a firearm under the Oklahoma Self Defense Act to openly carry a weapon or conceal it. It also allows property owners to openly carry a firearm on their property without a concealed carry permit for the purpose of self defense.

To receive a license under the Oklahoma Self Defense Act, applicants must take a firearms safety and training course and submit to a background check by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation. Those convicted of felonies and certain misdemeanors may not receive a handgun license.

With Governor Fallin’s signature on SB 1733, Oklahoma becomes the 25th state with either “permissive open carry” laws (no permit required) or “licensed open carry” (permit required). Oklahoma now joins Utah, North Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Indiana, Tennessee, Georgia, Mississippi, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Hawaii and Massachusetts as a “licensed open carry” state.

“As a strong supporter of the Second Amendment and a gun owner myself, I’m happy to sign this bill into law and grant law-abiding citizens the ability to openly carry firearms,” Fallin said. “Senate Bill 1733 sends a strong message that Oklahoma values the rights of its citizens to defend themselves, their family and their property. It does so in a responsible way, by requiring those citizens who choose to ‘open carry’ to undergo both firearms training and a background check.”

Businesses may continue to prohibit firearms to be carried on their premises. SB 1733 prohibits carrying firearms on properties owned or leased by the city, state or federal government, at corrections facilities, in schools or college campuses, liquor stores and at sports arenas during sporting events.

The bill was sponsored by Senator Anthony Sykes and Representative Jeff Hickman.

“I want to thank Senator Sykes and Representative Hickman, as well as the entire Legislature, for their commitment to protecting the Second Amendment rights of Oklahomans,” Fallin said.

It's not the constitutional "permissive" carry that it was intended to be by the Legislature. Sen. Sykes is the one responsible for the license fees that will go to the state for permission from the state to protect yourself.

Now you can walk around your yard open carrying without a license .

Now I have a question. Since my residence is no longer at my father's place, can I open carry on his property without a license for the means of self defense. Or can I only do it inside my apartment?

I'm hardcore (dan Dan's kind), but this is a small step, but a step in the right direction.

If you think this is the end, look at what happened in Alaska over the last several years!

I feel sorry for people who don't drink. When they wake up in the morning, that's as good as they're going to feel all day.

Yes. The main point of the question is whether or not someone who owns a piece of land can have friends/family over and allow them to open carry if they do not have a ccl.

A person in as a passenger in a CCL holder's car can have a concealed weapon while in the vehicle.
Why then could private property be different? As far as I've ever known, when you're on private property at the permission of the landowner, you can do what ever the heck you want, providing the landowner approves!

We've been open carrying on our property for years, family and friends too!

Are we outlaws?
