I received an email last night announcing that North Mountain Practical Shooters has closed.  The Match Director stated as follows:

"It is with a heavy heart and remorse that I must inform you there are
to be no more matches at the orchard after 35 years of continuous
operation.

We received a call from the orchard manager on January 5th letting us
know that the landowner requested that we terminate match activities
at the property. Since that time, we have made every effort to
convince them to change their mind. We pleaded for one final season to
soft close the match, giving you all one more chance to say good-bye
if you will. We even offered to buy the property. I received an email
this past Friday stating that they had considered our arguments,
however, they were choosing to stand by their original decision to
terminate the match. As we have always been guests of the property and
have exhausted all options of appeal, we have no choice but to respect
their wishes at this point.

They confirmed that there has always been a great relationship between
the club and the property. That said, times and interests change. They
simply want to be in complete control of their property. We cannot
fault them at all for that and have no hard feelings on our end as
they have none for us. I suspect that they have some plan for the
ground which is why they want us to vacate.
"

This match/venue will certainly be missed.  Great matches, great people... I spent many an hour there with good friends and soon-to-be good friends.
So, remember to thank your Match Director after every match.  Nothing is permanent.

Wow - sad news.  For some history:

Around 2003 or 04, the North Mountain shoot was run by none other than U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU) member B.J. Norris.

B.J. was all of 13 years-old when he started running the match (under the watchful eye of his father and other volunteers).  He's gone on to win the Steel Challenge on at least one occasion since joining the army.

There actually 2 different USPSA clubs registered there; one has long been inactive.  Now they both are inactive I guess.

The match pulled in many shooters from West Virginia, as well as Virginia.

I remember one Sunday when a guy named Phil showed up with a trunk full of machineguns.  He ran a PR benefit for the club and for a donation, everyone got to shoot a wide variety of full autos, including a select fire G36 and a FN PS90, among the more common Uzis, M16s, etc.  those were good times!

That sucks.

I haven't shot out there in years, but it was a great place.
