Hey Guys,

I was curious regarding a couple questions restrictions on CCW.  I have read conflicting information and was wondering if someone would know these specifically.

Thanks in advance.

1. Is CCW allowed on school property for non school events?  For example if another organization pays to rent the building on the weekend does this still apply? Or say someone was using the walking track late in the evening would it apply then?

2.  Is CCW allowed on the campgrounds in the Washington and Jefferson National Forrest?  I have read conflicting information that firearms are prohibited and also read read that state law would take effect and CCW is allowed with a valid permit.

You can only carry on school property if you don't step out of your vehicle. School property is always school property.  (§18.2-308.1)

The state permit carries over to the natl forest and their campgrounds. Their normal regs regarding firearms says no firearms outside of hunting season , state ccw excluded.

"The Virginia Gun Owner's Guide" should be read by anyone carrying in Virginia.

The Virginia Gun Owner's Guide

Virginia has a very good set of laws but it is ALL 'case' law.

We have no statute laws about lethal force.
Not for anyone.

The police operate under the exact same case law as everyone else.
They also have all sorts of department regulations also.

About the only break is the police cannot be charged with brandishing for pointing there gun at someone.

Many of the cases are older than the 1970s.
Virginia did not have an appellate level state court before the early 1970s.
The State Supreme Court handed down the rulings.

We have justifiable and excusable homicide exceptions in the law.

It is pretty specific rulings.

And if you look at your permit it allows you to carry a handgun.
No other weapons are covered.
