I've wanted to go, but I believe someone here posted they have a strict "no guns" policy, which I believe applies to concealed carry.

I've seen people open carry there before in years past...besides, reenactors are all over that place carrying everything from 1911's to MG42's.

I can't find anything about it on the website.  Haven't encountered this in years past.

Such a prohibition would be very curious, considering that the Chairman - Allen Cors - is also the President of the NRA.

Been wrong before, but.....

There were signs to that effect the last time I was there.

You sure you guys aren't confusing VMVA/AWTM with the Tank Museum in Danville?  They are the anti-gun place with signs displayed prohibiting all personal weapons.

I would love to see the signs that you guys say you saw.

I might be confusing the two.  Tanks are tanks, afterall.

I was there 2 years ago, it was great.  Last  year was cancelled because of heavy thunderstorms, but we're going again and expect it to be just a good this year.  They had a scavenger hunt for kids where you collected autographs from veterans of every war to get a prize.

This looks cool, my boy may love it.
Do you have to register or can you just show up?

Dammit, you're right.  Totally my bad.

I'm surprised that nobody mentioned the ponytailed a-hole at Danville yet either.

Really nice gig...the kids loved it!

The lego Missouri was awesome! My 5 year daughter lamented that she'll never get that lego set.

We only saw one mall ninja walking around with a plate carrier with a Glock, MK18 and machete.
My 3 year old pointed and shouted, "THAT GUY"...yup, he was that guy

Man, that show is so cool!  You can actually touch shit unlike a real museum.  I've got pics of my nephew sitting in all sorts of combat vehicles and holding all sorts of unique firearms.  The living history and reenacting guys are all cool to a man.  They've even had real Russians in the past.

Really good time, thank you whoever planted the bug in my ear to go.

Aberdeen has a decent set of old stuff.
They also have non-US stuff and damaged stuff.
Not sure if that part is public though.

It also has the defect of being in Maryland.

A whole state that has horrible handgun rules.
Even for transport.

Being an active base it will also have strict rules.

Unfortunately, the entire Ordnance Museum at APG and all the vehicles were moved to Ft. Lee as part of the last round of BRAC.  So, there is almost nothing left up at APG to see other than the building and the field where all the equipment used to be.  As far as I understand it, there's no budget to re-open a museum at Ft. Lee, so everything that used to be up at APG is in storage, likely never to see the light of day again, I'm guessing other than the railway canon which I suspect is too large to put into storage.

Sorry to hear that.
When I was a kid my father and my neighbor took us kids to visit.
It was so cool to visit then.

Here is an Arfcom link with many more photos:

http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_1_5/1912735_Tank_Day_only_comes_once_a_year__pics.html

There is also a link to a Video toward the end worth watching:

it's of a bunch of crazy Russians (are there any other kind?) who decide to just start up a Ruskie tank-destroyer that's been sitting in a goat field in Russia, untouched since the Germans surendured in 1945!

They strike me as maybe being diesel mechanics by day.  But they just wrench on it a little, put fresh diesel in, and hook it to a generator.  Off it goes!

Don't know why they felt the need to torch a hole in the gun barrel though.
