Hey yall, I live in King George,  and the local gunsmith wants to charge me $50 to install a barrel onto an upper. No float tube, just the regular handguard setup. The barrel and bolt came from another project and are already headspaced. I was wondering if this price was too much for what seems like a simple job.

is the donor barrel already out of the other gun or does the smith need to remove it from the donor gun in order to install in the new project?

Just my opinion, but the guy has investments in tools and training and has to charge an equitable rate to recoup his costs while making a profit. As such, I'd say yes to the cost of the install.

I agree. It would cost you more to buy the tools to do it yourself.

Hardly a "kid" if you are building and shooting an AR.
