Ok, we're getting closer to actually looking at homes.  In the process of making our current home here in MD sell-able.  Anyway, how is the 22025 area code?  Just off 234

Nice houses surrounded and intermingled with total shithole.

Sorry pal.

it's one of those areas where you really have to look neighborhood by neighborhood.

Montclair is nice.

You can raise chickens if you live on the west side of 234.
Brentsville is a nice area, close enough to city stuff but still relatively rural.

Don't know your specifics.  Look at Warrenton.

FWIW - You could move just a bit further south to Stafford and probably pay a bit less in taxes and have more consistency in the quality of the housing/area.

Gotta agree with the poster above. There are nice  safe neighborhoods and hoods.

Use police reports before deciding on the place.

Quantico is nearby so if noise  sensitive training days will rattle windows for many miles in the vicinity.

Not sure where you will be commuting to and what amenities you are looking for. Warrenton is a nice area but it's not even in the same county.

Wife and I have lived in Dumfries since 2008 and we can't wait to move elsewhere. We lived in what was once a nice community off Route 1 but everything has gone downhill in the last several years.

Are you dead set on Dumfries? Where will you be commuting to/working?

Montclair is nice, Ashland is nice, Spriggs Road communities are nice (Hope Hill, Lake Terrapin, etc), - anything between the dump and Montclair on 234 is nice.  Especially the elementary and middle schools in that area.  That's where the superintendent sends his kids, for what it's worth.

Ask a realtor, they WILL know.  Much more than random people on ARFCOM.

Not dead set on Dumfries at all.  Just saw some nice homes in Zillow there.  For now, it needs to be commutable to Oxon Hill MD () until we can get teaching gigs in VA.

Yeah, look up the Fair Housing Act, realtors are not supposed to disclose the information he is looking for.

Some random people on ARFcom could live in the area he is asking about and are giving first hand experience.

Your best bet is to take some time if you can and drive the entire area and see if it is what you want.  In a couple of days you could cover a lot of the area and get a good idea if it is worth looking into.  Commute wise with traffic it might be just as easy to look in the King George area and use 301.

I live there and yes they will - that's how I found it.

EDIT:  Just to clarify for you.  Asking a realtor "how is the 22025 area code" is perfectly fine.  They will happily show you information that's already online.  See http://www.realtor.com/local/22025

Tough concept, I know.

Yup, Stafford isn't bad.  Lots and lots of newer housing, now we're just waiting on commercial to catch up so we can have the finer things in life without a 20 minute drive.

If you want to move here, you should do it in the next couple of years...I think the property values will go up a lot once the planned improvements and commercial developments get started.  The Aquia and Courthouse projects should boost my property value immensely, if & when.
