Been dry firing in positions over the last week, and went to Elite Shooting Sports tonight to zero my Ar15 MBUS & ACOG @ 25m via sitting position with a hasty MS1 sling.  After shooting at little 1" squares and feeling confident, I went after a red coat.

For not having shot in Appleseed positions and targets in quite a few years, I'm pretty happy.  Next is to get a GI Web sling, and practice some loop in Prone position.

That's pretty good shooting for not using a sling. Add in a sling and those will tighten up a lot.

AMHLDO, are iron sights going to be a must have?

I ask because I'm torn between bringing a 20" AR (irons only) and a 16" AR with no irons, (1-4 scope).

Nice. I was going to contact ESS and see if they allowed people to practice the transition parts of Appleseed (and if so what we need to do to get permission).

AFAIK full position shooting is possible on all lanes @ ESS.  I was on the 100 yard because the lanes are about double the width of the 50 yard lanes. Though, wheeling that heavy ass bench out is no fun!

Optics are more than welcome. All the fundamentals still apply. We just encourage irons if your eyes are up to it. Most importantly just show up and bring a friend!

So, you watched THE SONS OF LIBERTY on the History Channel right?

If you visit their web page you'll see this... "SONS OF LIBERTY is a
dramatic interpretation of events that sparked a revolution. It is
historical fiction, not a documentary..."

If you invested six hours of time to watch historical fiction as I did,
then I ask you spend 90 minutes watching historical FACT.  The truth
needs no dramatization...

Don't forget to join us on the 21st and 22nd for our next Marksmanship and Heritage clinic at The C2 Shooting Center.

Thanks for posting the video!

I too was underwhelmed with the "History" channel playing loose & fast with facts. I was more than a little bit amused when they had Ben Franklin say things like "they'll think you're batshit crazy".

Take care,
Bob S.

After adding a BAD lever & a M1 Garand sling (courtesy of AmmoGarand.com) to my AR15, I got back out to Elite Shooting Sports in Manassas, and have cleared my first redcoat from the prone position with a loop sling!!  After starting off with a great success, I went to a Q&D AQT, and shot 180!  I got real excited after the first round, and didn't spend more time on my NPOA, and the scores suffered in the later rounds :-(

I'm really enjoying shooting this AR!   Next is more dry firing in positions + a 2-day class on match shooting and more range time before the May 12th Appleseed at the NRA range.  And also a paraclip for the M1 Garand sling ;-)

We had an Appleseed instructor as a guest speaker last night.  He really drove home the point that there were only two options available to the Colonists...1) Submission or 2) Rebellion.  Thanks to their actions, we now have a Third Option, active participation in OUR government.  Effective use of the 3rd option prevents the 2nd or even the 1st.

I am registered for the next event at C2.

I am going to use my AR 22 with Primary Arms red dot.

Is the red dot OK for this course?

The old eyes are not what they used to be and irons are blurry

I went this weekend, it was a great event.

The instructors were wonderful people, quite friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.

I learned a number of important things, one of which was that I suck with a rifle and sling....more practice needed

I had a GREAT TIME!!!!

The Instructors were fantastic. I didn't have a chance to thank them all personally at the end of the evening so THANK YOU to all I really appreciate the time and effort you gave to help me out.

I didn't qualify for the "Rifleman" patch (not even close) but I did take away the knowledge of EXACTLY what I needed to work on and HOW to practice and improve my score. This is what I needed. I now have a measurable goal to reach and a strategy for practice to improve my score.

I also enjoyed the blending of marksmanship instruction with the history of the founding of our nation. I now know who Isaac Davis was and the significance of Meriam's Corner.

I was the short, southpaw.

I had a blast. The positioning is different from how I was taught by uncle sam so it took a little getting used to. I also got the wrong sling and will be ordering a GI sling for hat they demonstrate. I think the best I did with my SBR was 164 so not enough for a patch for sure. I think once I get comfortable with the positioning and sling use I can improve that since my groups were good. Overall, it was a blast and I am looking forward to the next one.

On a side note: Getting old sucks. My knees, elbows, and shoulder were a bit sore. Also near the end of the night the 400m targets were just blurs. My 18yo self laughs at the old man.

I was in lane 4 with a blue mat and shooting a AR15 SBR with irons.
