Hey all,

New to the area, here for a few months for Army training. Looking for a decent place within a few hours of Richmond to wander off into the woods and camp for a day or two. Anyone know of good areas nearby?

The AT is within 1.5 hours from downtown Richmond.  Anywhere in the Shenandoah National Park or GWNF is nice.  If you are looking for "car" camping, go check out Crabtree Falls.  It is right on the Tye River and a decent place to camp.
