In order of preference:
  • Diet Mountain Dew, cold ... no ice.  Straight from the can is just fine.

  • Diet Mountain Chill, the cheap knock-off from Shopper's Food Warehouse, which is almost as tasty, and on sale costs a meager $.69 per 2-liter bottle

  • Diet Coke, with ice

  • Pepsi, with ice  (This is hands-down the tastiest of the sodas to me. But the empty calories and teeth-rotting potential make this a rarity for me.)

  • Coke, cold ... no ice.  Out of a glass bottle, if you please.

And never, fountain beverages at establishments that shortchange the syrup ... preferring the higher profit-margin that results from selling what is essentially colored water.  If my first sip doesn't taste like the beverage is supposed to taste, I'm happy to switch to water.  And I'll never again order a soda there, should I go back.

From my experiences in the industry, both Coke and Pepsi are both usually very concerned that their product is distributed correctly. Many soda fountains are owned and maintained by the very folks that sell business owners the syrup. That being said, I love an iced cold Coke, Pepsi, or Dr Pepper, but they are a health hazard to many folks in this country. Drinking a half gallon of that stuff a day is just stupid.

Adding a useless fact... Being a former Pepsi employee in Fairfax county...

We sold more Pepsi in the southern part of the county than we did in the northern part.
