We are about 2 1/2mo. post partum and I know my wife is not feeling her usual self.

I want to get dressed up, take her out to dinner and hit a lounge or two in the area.

Looking for something swanky, quiet, chill. We are big wine conosours (sp?) and I like cigars. Would be nifty if it was near metro stations for ease of travel, but not required. Im thinking like a martini lounge after dinner, somewhere we can sit, relax and reconnect over a drink or two... We are 26 and 25yo.

I know alot of the clubby clubs in the area, but I want to do something with a little more pinache. Any recomendations for a great night out for my one and only!? Money is not a factor.

If you want a very nice inexpensive & easy experience away from the NCR environment, I recommend unique dining followed by a visit to the Library of Congress's Packard Theater......on top of Mt. Pony in Culpeper. There are some Euro , American Western and an exceptional Thai restuarants downtown and the Packard Theater is really neat and free. Ask the guard( I believe one of them is an Arfcommer) for access to the pool area that over looks the town, a real romantic scene before the show.

If DC itself isn't required then Old Town Alexandria has some good places with a metro stop on one end and plenty of cabs to save you a walk before hand if it's warm out. The GF and I did Restaurant Eve's Tasting Room 5 course menu a few weekends ago and then walked around for a bit before heading to PX. I really enjoy PX if we're going to get dressed up for a night and not worry about the tab. Very laid back speakeasy-esque place with great cocktails prepared with some very unique ingredients.

Ill 2nd Olde Town Alexandria, lots of nice places to eat and have a good time there. Georgetown has lots of hip places as well. W

Whatever you do avoid National Harbor in MD, unless spinning rims on an '88 Cutlass is your thing.

I love Old Town, but sometimes you just have to go into DC itself to get that time you're looking for (27 yrs old here).

Three places that are all top-notch wine bars in different parts of the city. Cork (Dupont Circle), Sonoma (Capitol Hill), and Proof (Penn Quarter) are all places I think you might like. There are tons more, but these are the ones I have enjoyed the most. Hope this helps.

I hate to recommend it because I had a bad experience there and it hasn't been the same since Shelly (a man*) sold it, but as far as I know, Shelly's is the only place to smoke in DC. I haven't been there in years, but the food was good and it's a nice place to sit and smoke. The new owner was trying to keep it from becoming a sports bar, but unfortunately he imposed some stupid policies, like no couples at tables with four seats. We were there to eat and smoke, and the tables were empty. I got in an argument with the guy, which culminated in me asking, "does Shelly know what you're doing to his business?" It didn't end well. The guy is not well-liked.

The only other place I can think of that might have an exemption is Ozio. I'd pass on the idea of smoking in DC (I mostly do what I'm doing right now: smoke on my deck. These Rocky Patel Cameroon 2003s kind of suck. I love Cameroon but after two disappointing ones Ill move on.) It doesn't sound like cigars are the goal anyway, but I thought I'd mention it.
