Committee starts in a few minutes.   Make up is 8 (D) and 5 (R).   Hopefully, as in the Senate, there is little to no opposition.

EDIT Bill passes out of committee 13-0. Now to House for debate and vote.

Havent heard anything, but with everything else going on in the state, the bill is probably barely on his radar yet, if at all.   Hopefully it just goes through as easily as it seems to have been.

I really hope this passes. I'd love to be able to carry an auto knife. If it passes both houses easily I doubt Rauner would veto it. I haven't really seen any opposition to the bill so far.

There are no guarantees, but the bill is on the calendar for today (Mon), so it is possible something could happen.

Meh!   It was called for 3rd reading but it appeared the House sponsor was not at his desk and/or not ready to call the bill so it was taken out of record.

Not that it matters a lot, it did pick up another sponsor in the Senate today.

So no progress today.  Maybe tomorrow.

Joined the session late today, but it doesn't look like any activity on the bill.   Will check again tomorrow.

5/17

And another day without bill getting called.

Yet, all republicans were present...starting to wonder if there is opposition and they are working on votes or D's are refusing to call it.

Thankfully there was time for the entire House to rise and sing 3 verses of the Illinois state song.

He has 60 days to sign after receiving it or it becomes law.   Its a great step forward, but as a reminder the bill does not preempt local laws on switchblades, blade length, etc.

Passed by two votes (60 needed).    Guess there was good reason for waiting to get bill called seeing the Chicago Dem opposition today.   Amusingly, one of the Dems wanted the FOID requirement pulled after it being put in at the insistance of the Dems.

Will post a link to todays voting record when it becomes available.

I wonder if its like some others e.g. the 2.5 inch blade restriction...if you're not causing trouble they may not pay attn, but if you are it just gives them something else to throw at you.  After watching todays discussion, I dont think we'll see a clean up trailer bill soon.

Whens the effective date for the new law if he does?

No clue if he will sign it or ignore it.  I dont see him amending it.  If he would veto it though, I dont think there are the House votes for an override.

As written, the bill is effective immediately so no waiting until 2018.

I dont know about him signing it but cant think of a reason why not unless there is a mass gang attack with autos before then!   Bill hasnt been sent to him yet from what I can tell on the bill status page.   I guess they have 30 days after passage to send it to governor and then his 60 days starts once he receives it.

As best I can tell there have been near 100 bills passed by both chambers, many this month coming to the end of the spring session.   Not sure how many he has signed already, if any, but as of today only one is shown  pending

...and we are still waiting for the bill to be sent to the governor for his consideration.

edit 6/3

now 490 bills passed this session.    2 of those sent to governor.   1 vetoed, other waiting action.  Auto knife, Tannerite nor unlawful use of an elephant bills have made it to his desk yet.

Bill is still waiting to be sent to the governor for action.   It passed on the 18th so they've got another 9ish days to get it sent over which starts the 60 day timer.

Personally, I am expecting him to sign and dont know why he would not.   He's going to get enough other silly bills that are veto quality!

I don't quite get why it is taking so long to send it to his office though.   I did read where a bill send  delay can be a strategy to allow extra time to lobby his office for a particular outcome, but in spite of passing House by only 2 votes, there was not heated debate (at least compared to a typical knife/gun/weapons bill) and the Senate was unanimous, so...

I saw in the Tribune today that 500 bills were sent Rauners desk for signature this could be one of them.  Among the silly bills are naming shelter dogs and cats as Illinois official pet,  if Illinois needed an official pet I would have preferred the garter snake an animal native to Illinois. Also there is a bill banning elephants from traveling shows like circuses, something I oppose, a circus isn`t a circus without elephants.

Of the 491 bills passed, only 16 have been sent to the governors office so far and SB0607 isn't one of them yet per the ILGA  link above.   Once one  gets passed, just go ahead and send it over for goodness sakes and quit playing games with it for a month.

Sounds like Illinois is the first state to pass unlawful use of an elephant law...and Barack Obama day...they were quite busy this session!

I didn't say that....   Perhaps their "reporter" just didn't have all of their facts straight

edit: and I just checked SB0607 for today and it is not on the "sent to governor" report.  Status is still "passed both houses" vs the long awaited "sent to governor".   6 days left.
