Nope, not that easy.   Out of committee and on to Senate where it must be read 3 times and can be called for a vote.   Bill is on agenda for 2nd reading 3/2/17.   If it passes Senate, it also has to go to House for reading and votes.   If amendments are introduced, those must be reconciled between both chambers.

Of some hope is that it did get enough votes initially last session but didnt get called up for final passage  from what I understand...there was an issue with some Chicago woman who killed another with a switchblade which I think introduced the FOID requirement.

How a bill becomes law.

Edit: Senate adjourned until 3/7.   Bill did not get called for reading today  as best I can tell.

Just curious what the best guess on the odds of this actually passing, and getting signed by Rauner, might be?

For a bill to become law it needs to be approved by both the Senate and the House.

The bill to allow possession of an auto knife (i.e. what they are calling switchblades) if you have a FOID card has now passed the Senate and must now be approved by the House.

I dont know.   I'm surprised there were not any no votes out of the Senate.  It came close to passing in the last legislative session for whatever that is worth, although there are new people in the kegislature now.

I can't find the archived  posts from last year using the new "improved" arfcom search, but iirc a similar bill was approved by the Senate and sent to the House.  There it was amended...maybe adding the FOID requirement after a Chicago woman was killed with a knife...approved and sent back to Senate for concurrence,  It never got recalled on the Senate agenda but it was at the end of session and I think the original bill sponsor had resigned so there was someone new driving it.

So what are the chances this has preemption attached to remove the 2.5" limit in Chicago?

...Didn't realize it was that short, nothing about preemption.

Probably would be the fastest way to kill the bill.

Yeah probably, because somehow in Chicago a 3" blade is more dangerous then the firearm I can legally carry...
