This is a truism nationwide. Compare the drivel minimizing DGU's (most recently offered by the Victimization Profiteering Center and the Conspiracy to Support Gun Victimization) that only used Lawfully Justified Homicides by Firearm by Private Citizens (Expanded Homicide Data Table 15 in the Uniform Crime Reports in case anyone's interested) instead of using any of the dozen or so studies - including the latest study, released in 2013 by the Center for Disease Control, "Priorities for Research to Reduce the Threat of Firearm-Related Violence".

What's significant about this study? It's the one that was commissioned by President Obama as part of his post-Newtown Executive Actions for the committee chaired by VP Biden.

This study indicated that according to studies that directly assessed the effect of actual defensive uses of guns (i.e., incidents in which a gun was ‘used’ by the crime victim in the sense of attacking or threatening an offender), consistently lower injury rates were found among gun-using crime victims compared with victims who used other self-protective strategies. Additionally, they stated “Almost all national survey estimates indicate that defensive gun uses by victims are at least as common as offensive uses by criminals, with estimates of annual uses ranging from about 500,000 to more than 3 million per year…in the context of about 300,000 violent crimes involving firearms in 2008.

The CDC study acknowledges the overwhelming majority of DGU's that do not result in the death of the criminal - which is the only data point addressed in EHD Table 15.

But the anti's - like the MMGW - only present propaganda that supports their position. They cherry pick data, craft studies that support their preconceived notions through carefully crafted conditions which are never subjected to outside review and intentionally misrepresent external data.

Additionally the swarm attempts to suppress any dissent or disagreement, despite their constant claims of desiring "an open and honest discussion about guns". Why?

Because facts - defined for this discussion as independently verifiable statistics and corroborated accounts - don't support the position they hold.
