Mom went in about 2 months ago for her second (had right done, now left) shoulder replacement. Aside from the shoulder pain from being bone on bone, she was in good health.
The day of discharge, an incompetent nurse was helping her get up and didn't pay attention that she was grabbing her by her new shoulder. Mom flinched and fell, banging her head/neck on the wall on the way down.
The surgery went great, as was the two days in the hospital. She was literally on nothing stronger than Tylonol (not even Codeine) post surgery.
They initially thought she had fibromyalgia brought on due to the surgery, but have since ruled that out. They now believe that she has a severely pinched nerve in C4-C5 that is causing tingling, pain and lack of hand use in both hands.
The pain is bad enough that she's on tablet morphine twice a day. She's lost body weight, all strength, can't walk on her own due to coordination, and her quality of life has greatly diminished. She even talked about suicide at one point, which caused Dad to lock up all the guns so she couldn't harm herself.
The doctor's only care is that the shoulder is OK. The hospital has shuffled her to a "pain management" clinic.
I think it's about time for some legal assistance in ruining her quality of life.
