Got a buddy up there wanting his first firearm. any places to go/avoid? I don't know what he wants. I would like to give him a list of places to go.
My criteria
good prices/cheap transfers (Cheapest I found on GB was 25)
good selection
knowledgeable staff
TIA
Edit: probably going to want a CC class at some point in the near future also. Might as well get the recommendations in here now also

I've personally used Freddy Bear Sports for transfers when ordering
firearms/lower receivers from online companies or when purchasing from
Cabelas in IN. $50 is transfer fee but I think its because of evil
C(r)ook County taxes. Usually have a decent selection of ammo,
depending on what you are shooting. Usuallythey have 1911s, Glocks and a
bunch of AR15s. I have been to Frontline Defense in New Lenox. People
are friendly there with me. They seem to have mostly AR-15s and unique
rifles such as the Steyr AUG or Kriss Vector. Also usually have
pistols from FNH in stock. Only business I done with them is getting a
few parts cerekoted and pinning my muzzle devices. Met with both
managers from both places and tend to be friendly to me.
Midwest guns in Lyons are overpriced to me. Mega Sports in Plainfield....thats another thread, a beer and headache medicine.
