Here is what i could dig up.
News Article The Bolingbrook Village Board on Tuesday voted to approve a nearly 20,000-square-foot gun range at 750 Murphy Road. The 16-lane facility will be called Range at 355. The business will also have retail space and training areas, according to Triblocal. The board also OK'ed an animal hospital, which will open in a vacant storefront at Boughton Road and Bolingbrook Drive. Village Meeting Minutes PC 14-18 Approval of a Special Use Permit for a Planned Unit Development with Variances – Acrodazzle Athletics – and Preliminary Development Plan – Range at 355 - 750 Murphy Road, Lawrence Budnik & Jay White; Applicants ? Ordinance (14-050) Approving Special Use Permit for a Planned Unit Development with Variances and Preliminary Development Plan – Range at 355 (750 Murphy Road) Map Would be located across I355 from the bass pro shop on the border of woodridge Since nothing is showing up on the map it will probably be a year... And then after OSHA and the EPA screws them over it will be 2 years until there open. |

I know it's early for math, but if you assume that roughly half of the square footage will be for the range, that leaves room for 16 50-yard (150 feet) lanes that are 4 feet wide. 50-yard lanes would be sufficient for centerfire rifles, using Crystal Lake's On Target as an example.
16 lanes x 150 feet long x 4 feet wide = 9600 sq. ft. |

For a 50 yard line you need 190' for shooting line and backstop.

After work today I drove over to where this range should be located. The GPS took me to the new Orbus Exhibit & Display building that is right on the corner of Woodward Road and Murphy Road. The sign states the address is 9033 Murphy Road, not 750. It doesn't look like it would contain a range.
Just behind Orbus is a new warehouse being built. It is similar to all the other ones in the area with all the loading dock doors going down the side. There is also a small empty farm house that looks like it is going to fall over. Murphy road is one mile south of Boughton Road/87th Street. So I think the range would be new construction but I don't think it is being built yet. I took pictures but my photo host is not letting me upload them at this time. |

Just wish it was an In-N-Out Burger that parked next to the McD, but, I guess I'll just have to settle with the Range instead. Hopefully it's up and running by 2015.

I drove by the other day, still no joy. No building, no nothing. I doubt their going to be hosted in that warehouse...but that could make for a nice 100 yard range if it was! LOL I don't see any way to reach out to the folks at The Range at 355 - otherwise I'd offer my assistance (I work IT for a living) as I live, literally on the other side of i355 from them behind the Bass Pro. I could walk there if I didn't have a highway to contend with. :)

I'll look forward to it. That said, Rink's is pretty good/friendly and I'm doubtful this one will match their pricing on lanes/rentals. Still, saving me the drive south will be nice. We'll see. I'm guessing with BPS right there, they'll have to be competitive on pricing for purchases (well, compared to BPS at least, which isn't saying much).
We could really use a long range rifle range around here, so I hope we get a 100m. I don't know anywhere within an hour of this spot that has one. |

One of the owners of the Range at 355 is a former co-worker of mine. I spoke to him recently and he informed me they will be open for business in August or Sept. 2015. He has some of his staff in place(also former co-workers) and they are gun guys with great attitudes. They will treat the customer right.

Any competition for megasports is welcome news to me. I only live ten minutes from the place and I will not patronize them. The last time I was there I walked about two feet inside the store and a guy wanted my FOID.
I told him I didn't purchase anything yet and he said it doesn't matter, I needed a FOID just to step inside the store. I showed my FOID and then left. |
