So maybe I asked this before, and forgot if it was answered... hopefully there's a guru here who can answer my question.
From what I've read, when you make (or assemble) the SBR (upper in the case of the AR platform), it becomes a "firearm" and must be serialized or otherwise identified with a manufacturer ID. This means you have the lower, which has the usual MFG, M/N & S/N on it, and the upper, which has your info - assuming you're the one who creates (assembles) it. Your papers (or good copies thereof) have to stay with the upper proving it's legit. you have to file a mother-may-I if you take it over state lines, yadda yadda. That part I get. If you remove the SBR upper and replace it with a non-SBR upper, your original AR magically reverts to just another rifle, correct? |
|
AR a war weapon?
Honor your Oath, it won't become one. Gun control requires so much faith in the face of statistics, data & history it should be a religion. Since 10/22/14, I'M CANADIAN |

Only the lower is legally a firearm which is why it is the only part you can't have shipped directly to your house. When you register the lower as an SBR you put what length barrel it will originally have and after that you can swap out any barrel length as long as you keep within the overall length of 26 inches or more. |

Ok, so I'm really new to this.
Just got my C&R FFL. Printed out the double sided Form 1's. Where do I get fingerprints done? Passport photo? Which fingerprint card? FBI FD-258FA or LE? Is there a Form 1 for dummies? What can be SBR'd? Any and all help is welcome and appreciated, Thanks, dog13 |

That's a pretty solid picture guide. If you have any specific questions someone here will help out for sure. What can be SBR'd? My understanding is anything, so long as it's overall length is 26"+ not counting the muzzle device unless it is pinned. Any and all help is welcome and appreciated, Thanks, dog13 View Quote |

I just had someone take my picture on their phone and I resized it on the computer and printed it, no need to pay for one from a store. |

Started as thread in the HTF as well, but anyone got a lead on someone with a mill that would let me machine out my SBR 80%? I'm coming down to the wire, hoping to see my stamp in the next month and I still haven't gotten it machined.

So.....I got an email today from the ATF. I got kind of excited, then I read the first line of the email. Apparently they've been trying to contact me, but my number changed about a month after I submitted and didn't think anything of it. Well, since I'm doing an 80%, I put myself down as manufacturer. The paperwork doesn't ask if it's an 80% though, just if it's Colt, Spikes......etc. The guy gave me his direct number and I got him on the first ring, and had it sorted in less than a minute. Whew......got kinda worried.
I asked him if he had an idea when it might go into approval, since it's at the inspection stage. He said it should be within the next few weeks. |

41F is going to be in play shortly. You can wait and just notify the CLEO instead of just asking for a signature in the future. I'm pretty sure the forms are going to be changed pretty quickly to accommodate this. Just a thought. |

I live in Crook County and I ran into my local CLEO at our local 4th fest on Saturday and he said he would "not interfere with my rights" when I asked him about signing off on an SBR form. I kniw if I wait a week I don't need him but I'd like to get started before that.
I have several questions. 1. Where specifically does the law state that the overall lenth is messured with the stock extended? 2. Where in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago can I get an 80% reciever finished. 3. Where can I get good engraving done in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago? 4. Can anyone tell me what Colt, WW, or Bushmaster ask for 14.5" semi-auto but otherwise milspec M4's? Or where I can find that info? 5. Are there any NFA dealers inIllinois right now? Thanks in advance GuapoPogi |

I also have a few questions. Is all that is needed for a SBR now is a C&R? I heard there was a date and I would love to buy a sbr'd ak or Fal clone from DSA to support a local company. The last I remember is there was a date where LEO wouldn't have to sign off but I have no idea what the details are.

The date where we no longer need to get signoffs is July 13th. Now we will just need to send a copy of the completed form 1 to the CLEO in the area where we live. Pretty much smoke, chalk, and flares, although as a destructive device you can load buckshot loads as far as I know. Check out the Destructive Devices forum in the Armory for more details. |

For those of you that have had a SBR for a while:
When your C&R FFL expires, do you need to renew to continue to own the SBR, or was it a "get it and got it" situation and I won't need it unless I go through another Form 1 process? Mine expires in November and I'd hate to violate any of da rules! |
