I received my first stamp in the mail today. Application was mailed in late May, and I had to correct in error in January.

So this is what freedom feels like

If I got charged the $30 for my C&R does that mean I'm approved? If so how much longer of a wait am I looking at?

When you send in your C&R license do you need to sign it or is just a copy good?

Sent my first Form 1 off today. I'll report back when something happens.

How long did it take them to charge your card or cash your check? They received mine on the 13th and another person claims theirs was received on the same date. My issue is they are also claiming their card was charged a few days later and mine has yet to have any movement two weeks later.

Still interested in doing this but just seemed confused.

planning on purchasing an SBR instead of building.

Do I need to go through a class 3 FFL dealer? If so, does anyone know anyone/any place that does it in the west and south suburbs outside of cook county?

is there a down side to doing all this (I.e. Atf can come over anytime to your residence)

would it it be easier to just purchase a pistol, then
convert it?

If you want to buy a registered sbr it has to go through a class 3 dealer.

ATF can't/won't come over to your residence just because you own a class 3 firearm.

It would be a lot easier to buy a pistol and then register it on a form 1.

The form 1 process is simple. Acquire C&R license from atf, buy gun that you want to sbr, complete form1 along with passport photos and finger print cards and mail in.

Just called the ATF to check on a form I submitted back in Nov.  She said they are still working on July submissions

She estimated I would get my form back in Sept.

I'm still waiting for one they received (confirmed this) on September 7th of last year.  This was supposed to be quicker than it used to be, but it definitely doesn't seem that way.

I agree, last time I did a couple form 1's it took around 3 months. Other people have waited 11 or almost a year recently, that's what I was expecting this time around. 10 months 9 days was my total wait time. I sbr'ed a zenith z5rs (full size clone).

Nice, I thought there was some weird law about using foreign internals to make a rifle? Or something like that?

Not sure what the current ATF position is on SBRing an imported pistol. This is probably beaten to death in one of the tech forums, but I think you are referring to 922(r) compliance where x amount of parts from a list of 20 or so on an imported rifle or shotgun must be USA made, (e.g. hence the previous market for AK parts like FCG, piston, grip etc replacement parts stamped made in US.)

Yes, it's 922r
In the mp5 platform 6 U.S made parts are used comply with 922r.
I used the following
Hand guard
Sear
Hammer
Trigger
Follower
Floor plate

The process is almost the same to bring a sbr'ed cz scorpion Evo pistol into 922r compliance. Can't remember the total us parts needed for those.

I didn't.

I did include a letter stating that I'm in compliance with local, state, and federal laws. Also explained that the notification is required by atf and that no action is required by the cleo.

In addition to that, the drive there requires committing 2 crimes that I can think of, and the drive home at least one.

Called to check status.  Form received 11/10.  Agent told me to wait another two F'IN months.

Eleven month turn around.  RIDICULOUS.

So much for the NFA branch hiring more people to speed up the process...

The 7th of next month will be a year that they've had my latest form1.  I check the mail each day lately with the highest hopes that there will be a envelope from the ATF, but nothing yet.

A registered sbr can be transported just about anywhere without a form 5320.02 as long as it's in non nfa configuration (16 in or longer barrel, short barrel with brace, or just the receiver).

ATF acknowledged receipt of my paperwork on 9/7/16, and my stamp arrived today.  A year and a day altogether.  My first one (2 years ago) was quicker if I recall.

I can finally get to the range and try this as a rifle!

Just got back one of my Form 1's that I sent in last November with this note....

They want a specific ordnance from Palatine saying we are home rule... which I kind of understand except for the fact that I already have an SBR stamp!
Emailed the police dept asking for it, so hopefully they get back to me.
