I've lived in Vegas 4 years and only use Cox for internet. Other then that it's Netflix or Hulu for all my shows or I pull out the bunny ears if I want to watch something live (like the World Series). In four years I watched my internet price go from $52 to $55 to $62 to $72, etc. Seriously, at the rate they increase their internet costs it will be $100 per month in just a few years just to have a internet connection. How's there's not more public outcry and push back is beyond me.
A couple of things I've learned about Cox in the last four years:
1. Don't pay for more internet then you need. I was on the 50 Mbps plan and after the cost reached the $70's I had enough. I have a Mbps download tester app on my phone and I was only ever getting 23-27 Mbps. So I called and dropped to the next lowest plan that's 15 Mbps. Surprise surprise, literally had zero effect on my internet quality. Netflix and Hulu never buffer, wifi on my phone is the same. I literally cannot tell a single difference between my internet now and before with the higher Mbps plan. Made me mad I was paying extra each month for nothing (at least in my case).
2. Literally call them every year. They will knock at least $10 off your monthly bill. I'm not an asshole. I don't threaten to leave or tell them they are a shitty company. I literally just ask what the process is to cancel. I'll usually same something like "well I just want to know the time frame I need to call ahead to cancel my internet because if I switch to Centruy Link I'll want to cancel you guys right away so I'm not double billed for internet over a weekend if your closed."
Boom, quick transfer to a "retaining specialist" that will ask my why I want to leave. I'll say "Century Link is cheaper then you" and Bam, instant 12 month discount offer to stay. Repeat 12 months later. Paying retail is for suckers.
3. They inform you of the rate increases in your bill the month prior in like 10 font on the back. Those suckers really like to hide it. But it will tell you exactly what your next months increased bill will be.
4. Buy your own modem. What do they charge? Like $5 per month? I bought my own at Walmart for $75 and I've had it since June of 2013. Per month cost that's $1.82. And that amount goes down every additional month it lasts.
