Third year with a cow elk tag and finally bagged one. 72 wilderness only. Got her in marys river basin 10 or 12 miles from any vehicle access. I put in about 50 miles all tolled. Very happy and very tired.

Ruger american in 7mm08 topped with a leupold vx3 through both lungs liver and rumen, only a bit of rib meat and skirt steak was wasted.

Need to pick up a freezer and start cutting and grinding.

First goats for both of my nephews. Horns shorter than ears tags.

Heading to Northern Idaho with an either sex elk tag and 2 deer tags in my pocket, hopefully I'll have pictures to contribute in a week!

On a related note talk to me about what fat to add to the grind, especially if you know of a good source for it in the henderson/vegas area.

I'm thinking of just trying bacon for a small batch. Of course i usually cook my burgers in bacon grease and put bacon on top so that may be overkill...

Usually beef fat. Talk to the butchers at the grocery stores. Pork fat costs more and is harder to find.
Had a guy recommend bacon also. You can pick up the large ends and pieces packs at Wal-Mart sometimes. He said it was the best burgers he ever had. Figure 10-15% mix.

I didn't get a tag, the female did however. 332 yards with a 65gr Sierra Game King. Punched right through and took out the heart. Bullet performed well, and with 25.6gr CFE223 it is moving at 3,132 FPS.

My son and I just returned from his trip where he scored this nice little guy. I on the
other hand just filled my buck/cow management tag with a small buck and never saw any cow elk.

Tom

Edited to congratulate all the other successful hunters.
