Garnet Hill is nice. My friends wife found a huge garnet and made it into necklaces for her 4 sisters and her. We weren't as lucky. If you go bring a small sledge, a few small rock hammers, small brushes, some small dental type picks, a small "4wd" type wagon...with clearance I mean. Oh...another friend went there last November and saw mountain lion tracks so keep an eye and ear out and bring a handgun.

Bring a hammer and sharp chisel to assist you in breaking and splitting the shale. Biting gnats are your bane when it is hot with no wind. Insect spray may help. These are what we found. A partial trilobite head and what looks like two small leaves of some sort maybe?
