It is pointless, with the push for IDs for illegals. I am still waiting to hear about the real benefit.

Meh. Went and got mine. Just had to bring in birth cert and SS card along with a recent utility bill and current insurance card for proof of address. Was otherwise a non-issue since I was required to go in to renew this year. It took me all of 5 minutes to pull the required papers together.
ETA: As a bonus they are now issuing licenses for 8 years. |

Don't know. Probably for both. Either way, 8 more years until I need to worry again.

It is for both if you meet the requirements. I go tminie a few months ago and didn't get the new real ID just because I didn't have the paperwork with me. I think you have to have a clean driving record for a few years and meet a few other requirements but then it's 8 years till you need a new one

Did t see anything on the DMV site saying that you had to have a clean record. As long as your license isn't suspended or revoked you should be fine.
