This is the deal, every 10-15 years the BLM does a Resource Management Plan (RMP) and associated Enviromental Impact Statement (EIS).

This year the draft RMP has been released for public comment,
the comment period ends 1/07/15 !!!

Guys keep sending them emails [email protected] and state specific things that would negatively affect you if the access to public land is restricted further.

They have more than enough 'Protected' land, just look at this map.

http://www.clarkcountynv.gov/Depts/dcp/Documents/mitigation/bcce/OHV-designated-area-map.pdf

Designated "Wilderness Areas and Wilderness Study Areas" specifically discriminate against people who are physically disabled, the elderly, parents with small children, veterans with prosthetics, etc.

The BLM is trying to end the current designation of Limited OHV Areas from "Existing Roads, Trails, Dry Washes" to the incredibly restrictive "Designated Routes Only"

The BLM will not designate the existing trails without massive amounts of funding to map the current inventory and conduct an environmental assessment on EACH AND EVERY ROAD, TRAIL, DRY WASH. THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN !

THIS IS HOW THEY CLOSE ALL OUR ACCESS -
THIS CLOSURE IS IMMINENT IF WE DONT STOP THEM NOW !

G E T---> I N V O L V E D ---> N O W !!!

1/07/15 IS THE DEADLINE FOR COMMENTS

The BLM has agreed to extend the public comment period by 30 days, we are demanding a 12 month extension to allow a responsible citizen ample time to comb through the 2255 pages contained in the Draft RMP.

The Draft RMP has 4 Alternate plans, the BLM is requesting comments on what we like or do not like about the plans.

The 'Alternates' can be summarized as follows:
Alternate 1 - Keeps things as they are now.
Alternate 2 - Is incredibly restrictive adding up to 23 new ACEC's on top of the 23 we already have. It will kill off road recreation, desert racing, dirt biking, and abolish open range cattle. Between those industries we will lose 10's of millions of dollars from our community.
Alternate 3 - It is basically a balance between Alternates 2 and 4 and the BLM's preferred plan.
Alternate 4 - Is the least restrictive and promotes muti-use on public land between recreation, ranchers, miners, renewable energy, and off roading.

But all the new Alternates attempt to limit off road travel by changing the 'Limited' designation from the current definition "Limited to Exiating Roads, Trails, and Dry Washes" to the highly restrictive "Limited to Designated Routes Only". See the BLM OHV Draft RMP Map here: https://www.blm.gov/epl-front-office/projects/lup/2900/50735/55233/Off_Highway_Vehicle_Designations.pdf

At the public meeting, held by the BLM, many off road recreation groups asked the BLM representatives, including BLM District Manager TimSmith - [email protected] , where was information showing maps of the 'Designated Routes'? Their answer was, "We will develop those later after we pick the Alternate".
Sounds like 'We need to pass the law to know what's in it".
How can the public evaluate the Alternates without any of the travel management information?

The BLM SHOULD NOT BE TRUSTED. The local community gave hundreds of comments during the 2010 Scoping Period. The majority of the comments related to Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) use and the people's desire to maintain access to existing roads/trails on PUBLIC LAND.. But the BLM did not even include any information relating to the routes they intend to propose as 'Designated' in the draft RMP. See it here and LOOK AT PAGE 14!

Clark County is being forced, or as I see it Blackmailed, by the BLM.
Clark County Nevada has 93% of its land controlled by the BLM!
Every time we want to build a school, a police substation, or a commercial / residential development they are forced to trade BLM disposal land for a ACEC somewhere else in the county - all for the sake of the desert tortoise habitat lost by the development. We lose access to our public land and we all suffer an economic hit. See the Draft RMP ACEC Map here: https://www.blm.gov/epl-front-office/projects/lup/2900/50731/55229/Areas_of_Critical_Environmental_Concern.pdf

This is no way to manage PUBLIC land and it needs to end.
The State of Nevada is putting its affairs in order to take the public land away from the Federal Government, if they can't manage it correctly, we will: http://www.nvnaco.org/images//final%20nv%20land%20mgmnt%20task%20force%20report%20%28print%20version%29.pdf

Get involved and stop the BLM from baring you from accessing PUBLIC LANDS!
