Hello you Nevada guys.
We will be headed from Idaho to Phoenix and was wondering if the traveling conditions would be better to go through Jackpot south as opposed to going through Salt lake city.
Any imput you could share about weather and driving conditions would be appreciated.
We are AAA members and have asked them and got very vauge answers.
Best regards,

If Jackpot is the shortest route go that way. If it snows they plow the roads and it's probably a bit safer than driving in the nut house of SLC.

Not really trying to save time.. The freeway through SLC is faster but was woundering if we would encounter less snow going through Nevada; don't really know what to expect going 93 south terrain and snow wise.
Does anyone know this route compared to the SLC route?

There is only a problem with snow if you insist on driving during or right after a storm. Other than that it's not an issue.

Thanks for the replies.. Trying to avoid mountain passes. According to my map, we shouldn't encounter any.

Lot's of wildlife on 93, keep your eyes open, especially at night.

Drive safe!

If you want a cool pitstop, pull off the east side of the highway in Contact, about 45 minutes south of Jackpot and go up in the hills a couple miles. Very cool copper (blue and green) minerals up there from the old mining works.

After Ely you will Hit Conners Pass and you will Hit Oak Springs Summit. Both are pretty steep.

What would those roads be like around jan 14th?

depends if there has been a recent storm.  They seem to get the plows out within minutes if needed.

I would look at taking 6 to 318 from Ely and coming down that way.  One mountain pass and you should be out of the snow within an hour travel.  Travel time to LV from Ely going that route is within minutes of the 93 route.
