Thank you for the prayer request, CS.
As many of you already know, I lost my Mother almost three weeks ago (her funeral is next week).
Well, last Sunday night (Monday morning and two weeks to the day of her passing) I almost joined her and my Father.
I suffered a massive, near-fatal heart attack. It came out of nowhere when I went to bed. I tried to fight the pain off for about an hour and discounted it as gas or indigestion. NOPE. When I finally realized what was happening I called 911.
If it weren't for the dispatcher staying on the phone with me, and the quick response of CCFD Station 25 and the responders from MedicWest I would be DEAD.
Station 25 responded in about four or five minutes (after all it was 3:30 a.m.) and MedicWest was right behind them.
Station 25 has responded to my house many times over the years for my Mother and Father, but never for me. Suddenly, I was on the receiving end of needing 1st responders. I can't describe the professionalism, knowledge and care of the firefighters and the MedicWest staff.
They took me from near-unconsciousness to being alert and coherent.
CCFD saved my life. I know, that's what they get paid to do right? Yea, I guess. But I think it is more than that. They dove right in and went to work without hesitation.
I was transported to the hospital very quickly and I was in emergency surgery within 45 minutes of arriving at the ER.
I think we have one of the BEST fire departments and dispatch centers in the country and you'll never know just how important these first responders are until you need them.
Have you hugged your firefighter today?
