Been a while! Warmer weather had me thinking....

A few of us Colorado members are headed to Cola Warrior West the following weekend in March.

Last year we did a small COHTF shoot at the Chaffee county range outside Salida,CO off 285.

That Saturday seems to work for a couple of us.  Anyone else down to come shoot some guns?!

Just a heads up to the guys who haven't been to that range lately - the Chaffee county dump expanded its operations into an area immediately adjacent to the impact areas on the rifle range with silhouettes. They cleared a lot of trees on the right hand side and my understanding is they are operating bulldozes and other earth and trash moving equipment very close to the downrange areas.

A local guy there has been putting in a lot of effort to make sure that shooters are keeping it safe but the shooting conditions there have changed a lot since the shoot last spring. I don't recall his name but he was driving a yellow SUV.

In that case we should do an SRT8 caravan down. I've got a Charger.

Went down through Breck and Leadville last year. 

Kongman is not wrong about the changes at the Chaffee County range.  Basically, all the steels from about 300 out to 600 yards were moved to the (let's call it..) left half of the range.  The number of available steels still qualify it as a, IMHO, 'target rich' environment.  The variety of shapes and sizes of steels still present a lot of challenges for newer and more experienced LD shooters, alike.  It's still a first come, first serve format for the benches and it's still operated on the honor system in regards to everyone being safe, responsible and courteous shooting sports enthusiasts.  There are still no range officers and there are still no fees to use the facility.  

Most importantly, the range is still very dependant on and still receives a huge amount of volunteer support.  Without that, it wouldn't be near the facility it is today.  The gentleman with the yellow SUV's name is Bill.  He undoubtedly has more time, more effort, and more of his own cash invested in the range than anybody else who is associated with the range.  If you happen to see him whenever you are on the property, please be sure to say hello and thank him for everything he has done there over the years.  He's one of the good guys, to be sure.

So, yes some things have changed.  But it's still one of, if not THE premier ranges of it's type in the state and I am so lucky to be able to call it my 'home' range.  Hoping to be able to spend more time with you guys than I had last year.  May even bring a rifle or two!

I'm in Southeast Centennial so I'm thinking I'll take 470 out to 285 then head South from there. From google maps view of the range it is all dirt roads so it'll have to be fairly dry for me to drive the Charger. If it's muddy I'll have to drive the Xterra.

I'm planning on going, is this still on?

I'm still planning on being there. Do we want to do food like last year too?

I may go if I don't have to work that day.

Yep, I'm still in. I could bring some Dogs/ burgers for sure. Not sure if anyone has a small grill?

I'll bring a small tailgate grill. It'll cook 6 or maybe 8 burgers at a time. What time will this kick off?

I'm planning on leaving Montrose around 8am tomorrow. If anyone from over here or along the way wants a ride, let me know! Going to grab some brats or burgers tonight to grill tomorrow, but likely just a package or two. Iill bring my little camp grill and a couple small bottles of propane.

I didn't take any. Pretty small turnout compared to last year, but it was still a good time.
