I am seeing some trees in the Springs turning color already.  One in my front yard, and several on the north side of town.  Anyone else seeing this?

Is it gonna be a long/big winter?

A couple of the weaker trees in front of my house in Brighton are turning.

The changing of color in leaves is due to a decrease in sunlight not cold weather.  Cold can kill them and turn them brown though.

I think part of the change is due to lack of rain fall.  A lot of the trees are getting dry and so are their leaves.

Where are you? There has been no lack of rainfall in the San Juans. I was up by Leadville last weekend and it was pretty wet over there, but that could have just been from last week.

Rained on the Grand Mesa from Saturday thru Tuesday where we were hunting.  Muddy slop mess cow pie shithole pit.

Everyone here in Southern Colorado thinks it's going to be a long winter.  I had two cords of wood delivered yesterday and await three more.  Everybody is getting read for being snowed in too.  That has happened in the past.

From everything I am seeing this el nino is supposed to be top 3 for strength. It it supposed to rival the 82/83 and 97/98 season, but I didn't move here until 07, so I have no clue what they were like. I am hoping for it!

I have a buddy who is a supervisor with CDOT. He said they have already had 3 meetings over snow removal and a meteorologist they brought in said it is showing indicators of being a major snow event year.
Most El Nino years are a bit colder earlier with more frequent snow events and a couple of substantial events. The 82-83 season saw a good dump on Christmas with 2' falling damn near overnight.
97-98 I don't recall a real major event but it did snow frequently. Well there was a good one in October.  Made some good OT that year.
The holiday season in 2006 reminded me of El Nino, snow events weekly from Thanksgiving thru New Years, with the stretch near Xmas bringing some substantial snow.

Sheeit, reminds me the Mamamobile needs tires. Arrgh!

I just spent the last 10 days in the high country above Nederland. Most of the aspen leaves are changed and on the ground. Dry as a popcorn fart also.

Fort Collins area.  We haven't had any rain in quite a few weeks

First day of fall, and first snow up on Pikes Peak at sunrise this morning.  And I'm definitely seeing some color around work on the north side of town.

The only thing we're seeing is 4 weeks of cleaning gutters, with all the trees around here.
