Hello,

I got stationed in C Springs about a year ago and have wanted to get into some shooting competitions since I got here, but I'm having a hard time finding any ranges that hold such competitions.  I'd like to try 3-gun and some pistol matches.  I'm not picky on what type of competition, I just want to do something other than shoot slow fire plain old paper from behind a bench by myself as is currently the only option I have at my local range.

I'm an experienced shooter with military and law enforcement experience.  I've shot in hundreds of trapshooting competitions and a handful of low-key pistol competitions (rock your glock and bowling pin shoots) back in my home state of Nebraska.

Any help you can provide would be awesome!  Thanks!

Chris

For a little different competition (bigger matches, different kinds of shooting) but fun as hell, and in and close to CO (WY/NM/UT)

Competition Dynamics

They do multi-day type events, mostly long range field/practical, with some carbine and pistol.  But they have lineage in many of the 3 gun events around CO, and the SRM (Sporting Rifle Match ) at the NRA Whittington center

Good thread, I promised myself I would start IDPA this year, but I'm trying to research this as much as I can before I jump into it as most of the IDPA matches are pretty far away from me (Littleton).  I'm picking up a shinny new Gen 4 G17 and a Comp-tac belt holster for SSP. I'm pretty excited.

Don't overthink or research it. Show up at a match. Most people will help you get squared away.

That looks AWESOME.  I'm recovering from a dislocated shoulder so I'm not quite sure yet in my ability to hike with a pack and HBAR rifle, but I will definitely be keeping my eye on these.  I love the idea.

Actually in the Springs you have Whistling Pines Gun Club.  1st and 3rd Monday evenings.  https://www.ar-15.co/threads/6135-Indoor-Matches-in-Colorado-Springs

30 minutes south of the Springs there is the Pueblo West Sportsmans Club.  Lots and lots of different shooting matches happen there.  Wednesday afternoon/evenings, Saturday and Sundays.

tuppergun,
Just sent you an email about this, but you answered it here.  Hoping to see you Saturday!

How long do the matches usually last and is there a "warm up" area to shoot a few rounds before/during the match?

Thanks,
Ryan

Matches normally go until 2:00 - 3:00.  Plan on getting there by 8:00 and home by 5:00.

Sometimes there is an open berm avail for test fire, but not normally.

For an indoor match bring 100 rounds, outdoor 200 rounds.
