I'm visiting Colorado Springs next week and I'm looking for suggestions on things to do and see (and eat). My 2-1/2 year old nephew may be going along on some of these outings, so I'm also interested in some kid-friendly stuff.

Is the AF Academy open for tours? What is there to see?

The Royal Gorge is touristy, but flatlanders do get a kick out of it.

The Air Force Academy may be limited to the visitors center. Might call first and find out. There are several static displays at the academy, including a B52 inside the north gate. Last I knew, visitors still had to enter via the north gate, too.

With your nephew, I would definitely put the Zoo towards the top of the list. Garden of the Gods should also be a must-see. It gets crowded with tourists, but the rock formations are spectacular. USAFA is pretty neat, especially if you or your nephew are interested in aircraft. The cadet grounds has a bunch of bronze scale models of aircraft. The cadet chapel is worth a visit as well - from the visitors center you can take a short trail to the chapel and cadet grounds.

Buy one get one admission tickets for various Colorado Springs area attractions, although you may have to purchase the tickets in Denver...

USAFA is the #1 tourist attraction in Colorado.

Damn fine school too!

Take Navada Ave south to the entrance to Ft Carson, check out the tanks on display.
Rent a Jeep and hit some trails.

Just realized noone's mentioned microbreweries. If you're a beer fan, check out Bristol Brewery or Phantom Canyon. There are others as well.

I'm back. I enjoyed many of the suggestions. The AFA was a little disappointing. Apart from the chapel it wasn't that interesting.

The Cog railway up Pike's Peak was my favorite thing, but dammit... Manitou Springs was full of damn dirty hippies!

A tour of Ft. Carson was a given, though tanks aren't that thrilling to me, having seen more than I can count in my lifetime.

Yep a bunch of hippies, but a beautiful location. Should have told you to take a night stick to knock some skulls around.....
