THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT Literally came around a corner and saw a very messed up dude sort of crawling up from the side of the road trying to waive down assistance. We stopped and the guy sort of ambled over and collapsed next to our vehicle. My S.O. is a nurse and started to render aid. Open and closed head wounds and blood everywhere. The poor kid looked like an extra from the Walking Dead. Truly horrible... I figured he must have been a biker that got hit and thrown off the off the road. But then he says he rolled his car.... looked down the steep embankment and, yep, there it is. Totally could not see the car from anywhere on the road. The guy was there from 8:00 the night before until about 2:30p the next day when we found him. No cell service in the area, so we waived another car down and sent them back down the canyon to try and get to a phone. The guy said he had a passenger but that he was "gone." We checked the overturned car and, yep, the passenger was very clearly DRT. Ughhh. The only comfort was that the passenger was clearly killed instantly. Not a chance that he suffered at all based on how badly he was crushed. Took about an hour and half to get rolling again as authorities arrived and eventually flew the survivor out by helicopter, then took our statements and whatnot. Be careful on the winding mountain roads. It doesn't take much to lose control and when you go off the road where there are steep embankments really bad things happen. |

Big reason I have ham radio in both my car and truck. I've had to call for medical evac before.

Also interesting: The average yuppies with 2.5 kids will speed on by as you try to flag them down even seeing a bloodied, mangled man on the ground getting assistance from an off duty nurse. We were lucky that about 10 minutes after we stopped an EMT from Greeley pulled over and started helping too. Given the open head injuries on the guy that lived, there was not much either of them could do, but they had him fully assessed head to toe by the time the meat wagon got there and that saved those guys a lot of time on the ground. |

Amazing how shitty people can really be when youneed asistance the most wether for yourself or others you are trying to help. I appreciate folks like yourself who stop and help others in need. Thank you and your S.O. |
