Target shooting update July 2017

Reporting back: Input we heard at our June 20 Tahuya meeting
Thanks for your help spreading the word about our June 20 public meeting to gather input on how to best manage target shooting in Tahuya State Forest.
At that meeting we proposed two potential locations (http://file.dnr.wa.gov/publications/amp_rec_ts_proposed_sites.pdf) for a possible future Tahuya State Forest shooting range.

Since our meeting, we've been working to compile the input we heard.
In this forest, we've learned that 42 percent of meeting attendees would be willing to join us in volunteer events associated with a designated target shooting area.
Almost 85 percent of survey respondents said that target shooting rules are important or essential to have.
To see more feedback on the Tahuya State Forest effort, feel free to view: survey results, listening station summaries, meeting comments and email comments.
They are all available from the project webpage http://www.dnr.wa.gov/targetshooting.

We will work to identify a preferred location for a Tahuya State Forest range and will be returning for another public meeting with a concept at that time.
Depending on available resources after that, possible next steps include a state environmental review process, securing funding, developing site designs and building.

This process is helping us to develop our own knowledge, so we successfully also work with other communities in other forest locations in the future.

Thank you again for participating in this process.
Our approach is thoughtful and your feedback is very helpful.

It would be really neat if they could put in a long distance range.  Finding places to shoot 100-200 yards is fairly easy.  Finding places from 500-1000 yards is harder.  However, I understand that would require control over a much larger area, and that larger area may preclude many sites.
