Oregon, California, the federal government and others have agreed to go forward with a plan to remove four hydroelectric dams in the Pacific Northwest without approval from a reluctant Congress, a spokesman for dam owner PacifiCorp said Monday.

The dam removal is part of an announcement planned Wednesday in Klamath, California, by the governors of both states and U.S. Interior Secretary Sally Jewell.

"Tearing down the dams would be a major victory for tribes that have fought for years to restore the river for salmon they rely on for subsistence and ceremony."

It's all about the tribes and their heritage ........

Also notice how they don't say a word on where the replacement electricity is going to come from. They just talk vaguely about it's going to cost more and future upgrades to other dams.
Also, does anyone really believe there are 3 tribes that solely rely on salmon for their main food source?

I think it is more about the "ceremony" part.
It is their heritage to run up and down the rivers in jet boats throwing nets out.
It is also their heritage to set up casinos on tribal land.

We don't need any stinking electricity in the society progressive liberals envision.  Everyone will run naked in the forests and celebrate around fire pits.

Back when I was dating a liberal chick and the al gore movie came out she was all "carbon footprint this"" and "carbon footprint that" so I did the calculations on what all the greenies wanted peoples carbon footprints to be, and rub it in her face when she went over it.  It normally took about 3 hours.

eta- that is, how long it took to blow a days carbon allotment in a 24 hour period.

The natives have the upper hand now.  Eventually there will be salmon on the upper Columbia since money is no object if you're not paying for it.

Don't forget slaughtering those that were here before them, who in turn did the same thing to those before them.

You folks do realize, that with the way treaties were wrote back in the day, that many tribes have far more rights, than us newcomers.

Living in the Flathead Valley of Montana, surrounded by three very prolific tribes, I see this shit all the time, and most of the time they get away with murder if they are so inclined!  Stuff that some of do, we would be sitting in the jug for the rest of our life!
