I went to the game last night with the family and was surprised to see you have to go through a metal detector to get into the game.  You can check a knife and pick it up after the game, but no firearms are allowed.

How can they do this when Safeco is a public stadium?

Sodo is the last place I'd want to be unarmed at night.  Does anyone know any gates that don't have a detector?

Per your ticket agreement with MBL.

Same as with NFL.

It is not Safeco's policy, it's the lessors policy.

So it looks like the baseball and football fans have a decision to make- 2nd Amendment or live sports.

If you choose the latter, good luck after a night game.

I wouldn't let it stop me from going to a game. I have never felt that my personal safety was at risk in that area. And I have worked at night in the vicinity. A little common sense and situational awareness goes a long ways. I'd bet that drunks fans getting hit by trains is a bigger concern than being randomly attacked.

There was a long thread on this recently. Basically, your tax money paid for a stadium which is 'operated' by a private entity via a lease, so they claim not to be bound by WA law. A well funded test case would be good though.

You can watch grass grow or paint dry, they are more exciting than a baseball game and you can have a gun with you.

Not to mention, no crowds, cheaper (better) beer or whiskey, better food and no lines.

The TV does not replace watching a home run or a critical strike out in the stadium.

Would you go if they demanded you pledge allegiance to Mohamed?
What if you had to register as a democrat as a condition of entry?
What if they subjected you to the indignity of an unreasonable search?
What if they denied your right to bear arms?

A home run or critical strike out is not enough to make voluntarily take my family to a gun free one target rich environment.

So in this thread people who wouldn't have gone to a baseball before still won't go but now they have one more reason on top off all of their other reasons. And people who would go to a baseball game before will probably still go because even though they may dislike the policy, there is more to life than being able to carry a gun with you everywhere. Did I miss anything?

I've gone to many games, but I always carried.  I don't let others dictate to me when and where I carry.  If they decide to give me an armed escort to my vehicle, fine.  If not, well, they helped me make a choice on where I spend my dollars.

I'm not a fan of gun free zones.

You have to admit, that's pretty darn ironic given your choice of career.

I take it that you refuse to fly on commercial carriers, too?

Wow, I didn't realize the stadium was so dangerous. All those times I went as a young boy and to think of all the dangers awaiting me around every corner! I must have been one of the lucky ones, huh?

The stadium itself, not likely. But how about the 30 minute drive to the area?  Or the park-n-ride lot followed by the Light Rail ride?  Or The 15 minute walk to the park, or the 15 minute walk out of the park, in the dark?  If you drive, I suppose you could leave it in your car and hope no one breaks in and steals it. But if you take mass transit like Seattle wants you to do, what then?  Leave it home is your only option.

Again, just like the liberal gun-grabbers, you miss the "big picture."  Do I need it in the park?  Probably not, but maybe. Do I need it sometime in the journey to/from?  Again, probably not but more likely. In any event, isn't that my decision to make?  Shouldn't I have the option to decide what is or is not prudent for my own protection?

At the very least, if they want this to be the policy, they should provide options to check my firearm at the facility. That way, I'm only disarmed in the park itself, not for the entire time.  But what makes me so untrustworthy?  Nothing, so the proper response is to not go at all. And any more, I go out of my way to prevent spending money in Seattle....

CCWing is risk mitigation and not carrying to a game is acceptance of a risk/reward ratio. Nothing is perfect.

For playoff and games I want to WATCH, I go TV all the way, but there is something really cool about going to a ballpark watching a major league game every now and again.
Actually, I have been to numerous games- and had plans to do one or two this year. This policy changed that.

Straw man much?
I am armed to the airport, its then checked, then again rearmed at arrival.

No lock boxes at safeco means unarmed to and fro.

I have nothing to fear from law abiding citizens who carry, and where I work is not a gun free zone.  There may or may not be a firearm on premises at all times.

If they are using the same wands as the C-Link then you don't have to worry.

Went to a game last season where she wanded about 1 inch over an 8oz stainless flask and didn't even bleep. No such noise on my 3.5" benchmade either.

Probably didn't even have batteries in it.

How do the wands work?
Stainless is non ferrous, so it shouldn't set of a metal detector.
