What's everyone thinking about using in their semi-auto rifles for deer hunting if everything gets the final approval?

Sticking with your .223/5.56 and a "proper bullet choice" or are you gonn'a go hog wild and get a .458 SOCOM or .50 Beowulf?

I lived in NY for many years... and used an ar15 to hunt deer.. before the AWB went into place.

The deer size is in NY is about the same size as PA..

The 223 will do the job with TSX or Fusion heads. The key is shot placement and distance.

What's your limit on distance for .223 on whitetail?

200yds max, I prefer 125gr 300 blk or 6x45 in the 85gr range.

A 65-75 gr .224 will do the job, I just like more mass and all.

I would prefer .308 myself. But if you have a standard AR already, .300.

My only semiauto in 308 is a PTR-91 so I'm considering using that for hunting Russians deer this fall

I only have to find a 5-round G3 magazine (any pointers??), or plug one of my standard size ones (has anyone done that?).

I have a 6.8 upper all ready to go for it.  If I didn't, I'd pick up a 6.5 just as easily.  While a .223 could technically do the job, it's kind of bare minimum--would you purposefully pick the least attractive woman you could stand to date or marry?

If I hunt with an AR, I will use my 308.

No one is going to argue that the 30-06 out of the M1 won't get the job done! Nice choice.

I want to stick with an AR platform just because of the ergonomics.

Just started a 6.5 grendel sbr build.  Not sure if it'll be ready for rifle season or not.

Depends on where you hunt. What kind of distance are talking here?

Cook Forest area. I usually hunt from a tree stand and don't do a whole lot of stock hunting. All deer I've taken with a rifle were within 100 yards.

I have a grendel to hunt with and also its bigger brother a wild cat in 6.5brx.  The brx is a side charge 20" barrel the grendel is an 18" barrel.  I have no qualms about using either for deer, and the brx for bear maybe.  I do have a 6.5 Creedmoor bolt gun though.  I'm a 6.5mm addict.
