If they wanted to, they could very easily open up the various background check systems for public use on a voluntary basis.
Conducting a F2F with a stranger? Want to be sure you are not selling a firearm to a disqualified person? Have them put their information into the site, undergo the check, and provide you the confirmation number. You can then look it up by the number to verify that the person passed the check. Think FFL E-Z check. If you choose not to do this for whatever reason, it remains your right to not do so. But no - they won't pursue something like this, because it doesn't impinge on 100% of the private transfer of firearms, which is their overarching goal. |
