Going on an overnight next weekend in Scranton. Figure we'll visit Ricketts Glen, do some shopping at Steamtown Mall, and then what? Any good gunshops or Army/Navy stores in the area?

Any lunch and dinner suggestions are helpful!

There's 3 things to do in Scranton.
All of them are drinking.

But seriously, you don't want to go to the Steamtown mall. If you want to go shopping, head up Rt 6 to the Viewmont mall. Much safer.

The restaurant at the Radisson (Carmens) has good food. There is always Coopers Seafood House, especially if you were a fan of The Office.

Trax Lounge in the hotel has some nice food as well.

I haven't been to this one yet, but I am planning on it sometime when I'm up that way.

Glider Diner is pretty much a must for breakfast.

Shopping at the Steamtown Mall?

Go to the Viewmont Mall a few miles away in Dickson City.

We went, we saw, it was a fine weekend.

Ricketts Glen is a really nice park but the trails were overrun by New Yorkers. We'll probably go back in the winter, I'd like to see the falls with some ice.

My boy wanted wings for dinner so we went to Kelly's Irish Pub. Doesn't look like much from the outside but the service and food were good. Followed by Coldstone Creamery because there's always room for ice cream.

Actually shopped at the Steamtown Mall (school clothes) and survived. It had the stores he likes but was a ghost town, I don't know how they stay in business.

Went to the movies at the local megaplex. Very cool huge curved screen and good movie (Lucy).

Stayed at the Radisson Lackawanna Station. Old building, supposed to be haunted but we didn't see any ghosts. The maid said there was a former morgue in the basement but we had no interest in seeing that!

Breakfast at the hotel (Carmens, good) and back on the road to home. Overall a fine visit. The city itself didn't seem as bad as I was expecting, just dead. Saturday evening and it was like the sidewalks were rolled up.

try hiking the rickett glenns water falls trail after a nice rain storm.  It is nice seeing the waterfalls gushing with more water than normal.
