So I'm looking at buying tickets for a couple games and realize nosebleed single game tickets are 170+.

Looking at season tickets, I can get lower level for about 100 a game. Any season ticket holders have experience in selling the tickets they don't use ? I assume I can atleast  break even with my money.

Depending when the first game is you want to see in the season.  Let them get a couple losses under their belt and just pick up the individual game tickets at the better pricing as the bandwagon wears down.

Did you verify you can get lower level season tickets this season without being on a wait list?

I had section 112 row 2 seats for many years and was always being hounded to sell tickets.   I can't stand seeing a Cards game with half the fans wearing opponent colors so I never sold any, but you should be able to atleast get face value.
