As the title states, looks like I'm zeroing in on Chandler after looking at homes and school ratings in the area. Bro-in-law is local pd and recommends staying clear of Phoenix proper and some areas of Mesa. I didn't realize how much industry is located in the greater Phoenix area. I'm a CA native, currently stationed in Hawaii.

Any pointers? How about the communities still being built, any recommendations?

Absolutely, I was very impressed by the industrial and defense base in the greater Phoenix area.

Their is a lot of home town guys that live in the Chandler/Gilbert area. Both are about the same. Both a few area to avoid buying a house in. Once you figure out who you will be working for then more info as to best area to live can be figured out.

Yes, it has been a long time. Hopefully, in my soon to be "retired" life, I can take up shooting in the desert again - it's been years since I've done anything like that.
