Congrats! Looks like you worked for that one! My girl shot a 1x2 bull Saturday morning. 160 yards with my 270 WSM. LukeDuke may have a pic.

Shot this little guy Friday morning in 3a.  About 300 yards with 7mm Remington magnum.


 

Yeah, it was a long hard day. He fell a few miles from where I left the Polaris. Had to carry him out a leg at a time. I had help though.

HOLY CRAP!!! I thought you were my bud who just got an Elk himself just outside of Cottonwood; you guys look very similar. Nice score! I should've gone but I just had a back procedure done and I'm still extremely sore but I should be getting some elk steaks here real soon though.


On a side note, does anyone have any recipes they'd like to share for elk? Preferably something I can do indoors because I can't really work the grill right now.

Update.

We went back out last Wednesday after the snow storm and tried looking for one for my dad.

Found him.


He was feeding with a group of 5 other bulls. The top left was the biggest. We watched them for over 30 minutes trying to decide if they were too far away. My dad needs double knee replacement and this time it was just the two of out hunting. We had no help. The elk were feeding on a ridge to hill sides away from us at 740 yards. Finally we decided to give it a go. I calculated the bullet drop and set up the rifle for my dad to take the shot. After the shot the bull only took a few steps, stood there for a minute then fell over. I wasn't even sure the bullet found it's mark, but it did.

I hiked the two ridge lines over to were the bull fell and found him DOA. BTW, lots of fresh bear tracks in the new snow.



This is when I realized I was all alone with a 1200 pound dead animal miles from the nearest road all by myself on a mountain populated with bear and mountain lion. At this point I backed out of there and made a few phone calls to get some help getting the bull out. It was well after dark before we got out of there so hero shots had to wait til the next day.

My first bull was ready when we dropped off the second so I already have it home and on the wall. My son named him Skully.

Great to see that some had success. We drew 4b and did not see a bull.

I just got back from the field. 8 days of chasing elk. I missed a monster 6x6 but found a cool velvet 3x1 bull on the second to last day.

From two weeks ago.  Unit 22.   340 Yard shot with my new Tikka 300WM.  Two chest hits within 6 inches.  Still ran 40 yards.  2 mile hike out in the snow, 45 minute quad ride to the trucks.  Hung the quarters and packed out the following day.  









And a spike my buddy shot, 740 yard shot.  He had knee surgery a few months ago, so he shot the first one he could see, in very easy terrain.
